Hi all, happy Wednesday!
A productive day today, making things.
My weight today is....150.0! Just .1 lb. to go before reaching my first goal of being under 150 pounds!
My brother and SIL have their Santa Barbara house on the market. After a couple of months of slow movement, they buried a St. Joseph statue upside down in their front garden. Doing this is a fairly common folk practice for selling property. Yesterday they called to say that the white stone they had placed over the spot where he is buried had disappeared, and the ground over him had been dug in a perfect circle down to a depth of 6 inexplicable inches. They were joking that St/ Joseph really wants out of that hole, but at the same time they found it a little spooky. So they filled it in, smoothed it out, and chose a new stone to mark the spot. This morning they woke to see that the same thing had occured: a vanished stone, and the soil displaced above the statue. I told them to dedicate a brown candle to the saint and ask for his aid. We'll see what happens. It's all interesting to me! Hopefully they'll get a buyer soon, or come Halloween they'll pull it off the market until spring. They've already reduced the price by a half a fortune, and really don't want to have to lower it again. If it doesn't sell in the next go-round, they will move to their other house on the Gulf coast and just rent their California home.
What I was anxious about yesterday resolved, and I am relieved.
QOTD: Originally I wanted the sleeve, as I found the potential vitamin deficiencies associated with RnY too scary. But my neighbor (a nurse who opted for the sleeve because she had taken care of two patients who had died due to severe complications following other types of WLS) had a VSG about a year before my surgery, and I watched her lose about 60 pounds and then just stop cold with perhaps another 75 extra pounds still burdening her petite frame. She is still around that same weight now. She did, however, normalize her blood sugar, which was wonderful.
Anyway, I didn't want to go to the extreme extent of having surgery for my obesity only to stop losing while still obese; I really, really wanted to lose to and then maintain a normal BMI. I finally opted for an RnY after speaking with my surgeon. He offered me a choice of the sleeve, an RnY or a DS. I didn't feel willing to take on a DS, and I was experiencing a lot of terrible heartburn due to a hiatal hernia, so I chose to have the RnY. My hernia was repaired when I had my surgery. I am very glad I made the choice I did.
All that being said, my neighbor's weight loss experience was, I think, much more to do with her food choices and even more with her profound discomfort with becoming thin, with all of the extra attention that can involve, than with any innate limitation of the VSG. Also, she is beautiful regardless of what she weighs, and a fantastic person, and she is far, far more lithe and active than I was at my peak and for many months thereafter. I don't want to sound as if I am denigrating her choices. We each have our path.
Speaking of WLS, at the last support group meeting i attended in CA before I moved, the nurse running the group mentioned that Dr. Billy had been doing the surgery using a new technique involving only 4 incisions instead of 5 - I must have been one of his last patients with 5 incisions. I found that interesting.
First: tea!

Have a lovely day, and be kind to yourselves!
Oooh, I love spooky stories!!
Could it be the neighborhood kids who saw them digging the hole for the statue and now are messing around with them?

I thought of that too, but it's unlikely. Their house is in Mission Canyon, on a canyon hillside; you have to go down a flight of steps to reach the front door. The front garden is terraced from the street to the front patio area, and everything is behind a tall stone wall. Unless you're standing at the top of the steps, the garden isn't visible. It can't be seen from the street or the driveway. My other thought is a gopher - but that too is unlikely. My brother said that they found two huge snake sheds in the past few weeks, one by the lemon tree up against the wall, and one on the wall itself. The one by lemon tree was 5' long! Anyway ever since the snakes showed up (they did see one sunning itself on the driveway), all of the gophers have vamoosed. This is after many years of being plagued by gophers, gophers everywhere! Maybe one of the snakes has a hole extending under the statue and it's underground movement made the earth above move, but that wouldn't account for the stone disappearing. Some would say that it's St. Joseph at work, uncomfortable at being buried upside down, and trying to extricate himself! Hopefully the perfect buyer will show up soon, and they can then dig his statue up, clean it off, and give him proper thanks!
Hi everyone,
Quick pop-in for me today again, trying to play catch-up today and I had horrible insomnia last night. I ended up finally dozing of around 3am only to have to get up at 5:15 to make it to my Physical therapy appt this morning at 7am. needless to say I am dragging today!
QOTD: I picked RNY for the statistics also...I feel like I had a lot of weight to lose and I wanted the best possible outcome...I do also have a history of reflux. I think I also wanted to have the risk of dumping because I know if I do eat sugar, I will have a relatively instant consequence (instead of seeing it on my body several days/weeks/months later when its too late). I have been too afraid to test it yet!
I am only 7.5 months out but I have not regretted my decision at all...only negative would be not being able to take nsaids but I am learning to manage my pain in other ways now and even with the sleeve I couldnt have taken them.

Hi everyone,
I came home from early today in extreme pain. During the night l got an attack of gout in my right big toe and I'm hurting. On my out the door I fell walking down the steps trying to not put too much pressure on my toe. Luckily I fell backwards onto my butt(basically into a sitting position) which still has more than enough cushion LOL!. Thankfully I didn't get hurt. I've just been sitting in my recliner with my foot elevated and soaking it in epsom salts now and again.
QOTD: I wanted the RNY but I had too many health issues at the time so I had to get the VSG.
B: 1 egg, turkey breakfast sausage, 1/2 slice of cheese
