What's on your Tuesday menu RNY'ers?
Cats...we have three very old cats. The oldest is...16? That's a gas, I found her as a stray when I was engaged to my husband and we've been married for 15 years. She was a young cat but not a kitten. Anyway, I think she is slipping a little in her old age, and many times during the night she will sometimes walk around the house meowing really loudly. ? she doesn't seem to wake anybody but me, I guess everybody has gotten used to it.

Hello to another cat lover!
Nocturnal prowling and howling seem to be common when a cat's vision and/or hearing fail. My two Siamese sisters turned 17 yesterday! My little Libras! Kai has all of her faculties, thank goodness, but poor little Mia is completely blind, quite profoundly deaf, and her sense of smell is also clearly less than it was. She went blind about 2 years ago, but it had been developing, unbeknownst to me, for a long time. She has a congenital condition, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), for which there is no cure, but luckily she kept her sight much longer than most cats who are thus afflicted. This affects certain breeds, the Siamese amongst them. Nowadays, breeders can test for this, and if present, they won't breed that cat. I'm telling you, no joke, Mia's yowling could wake the dead! I'll have to watch it around Halloween!

Is Tante German? I was trying to remember where your family was from, European is all that comes to mind.
My cat is super loud and whines like a baby for about 1/2 hour before bedtime every night. It drives me crazy! He wants me to go to bed so he can lay on my chest and get my undivided attention.
Let us know how the recipe turns out!!

Tante is French for aunt. My great aunt lived all over Europe, especially in Paris and Vienna, before crossing the Atlantic and settling in New York. She was married three times - extraordinary in those days - and had had quite an adventurous and romantic life. I often have wished that there hadn't been such an age gulf between us, as I think we would have been great friends. I admire and miss her.
Your cat sounds like quite a character! Sometimes they're a pain, but they are so much to our lives, it's worth putting up with their little idiosyncracies!

What a lovely fur baby! Jesse sounds like a wonderful cat! I have never had an Abyssinnian cat, but they sound wonderful! Siamese also choose one human with whom to bond, then follow you around as well. They are almost dog like in many ways. When I first got these two, my son was still living at home. Mia absolutely adored my son, she positively doted on him. As soon as he would enter the room, she would begin purring. When he moved out at age 23, she transferred her affection to me, but I definitely wasn't her first choice. She wasn't a noisy cat until her blindness reached an extreme level. That is, she had the classic throaty Siamese voice, but she really would never wail and yowl the way she does now. I'm hopeful she will let me sleep tonight!
Good Morning! Janet, thanks for getting us started and hope your third trainee does well. I was able to get caught up on most of my emails yesterday and also attend a few conference calls to get some briefing on some upcoming changes to my department (the changes seem positive so I am hopeful but change is well..change).
QOTD: I have one sister, she is 2 1/2 years older than me. We moved from update NY to CA when I was 2 and we only visited NY once when I was probably 6 so I did not know my grandparents well (dads side visited here twice). We had my dads sister and family who lived here and we were close (three younger cousins****il I was in junior high and then the adults had a falling out. My aunt died of cancer when I was in 9th grade (we saw them a few times after the falling out but before she passed away) and we didn't continue to see my uncle and cousins. I did run into my uncle while I was working a job fair a few years ago and we have met for lunch a few times since. So a very small family.
