losing weight after surgery

Congratulations! You are flying down the scale!

Everyone's rate of loss is a bit different, and depends upon several factors, including their starting weight, their age, their sex, and their overall compliance with the program. But the first few months are very exciting and weight loss tends to be dramatic! Remember that many people experience a stall early on too though. This is frustrsting, but they are likely losing inches even when the scale is parked for a bit. Then rapid loss resumes!

Be sure to keep on the straight and narrow to take full advantage of your honeymoon phase! This lasts for 12 months or so for many, longer for some, and it's the period when your weight loss is comparatively effortless. Later on it will be more challenging to lose, so work it while all the lights are green!

All that being said, I was 353.6 the day I started my 2-week pre-op diet, immediately prior to surgery, and on the day of surgery I had lost 18 pounds. One month later, I was down another 18. But remember, everyone is different, and some will lose more, or less, than you will all along. Just stay steady and be wise about your choices, and you will continue to be very successful! Again, congrats on your loss!

thank you and congrats to you as well. I'm so thankful to be a part of this group and read other experiences and share mine.

Im hoping to be one of the lucky ones that drops lots of weight in the first three months, I want to take pics with my daughter this christmas for the first time in seven years.

As for maintaining, I wont be playing any games. Im going to work out once I have clearance and make sure while I drop, I tighten. I feel completely fine so im hoping they give clearance tomorrow when I go see the doctor. Honestly nothing bothers me at all.

just based on what I see in people's sig files, I would say most people lose in the 15-25 lb range the first month, but of course there are those who lose less or more than that. Like others have said, everyone's different, and we lose at different rates depending on a lot of different factors.

I lost 16 lbs the first month and was a pretty slow loser the whole time, but I was very committed, rarely going off my program during the weight loss phase, and ended up losing all of my excess weight.

in the end, your success is going to be much more dependent on your level of commitment than on your rate of weight loss.

16lbs in your first month is fantastic! Did you do one week of liquid or two? I see the doctor today and I'm hoping I can skip puree stage because I cant eat puree foods, I will throw everything up. I've always been that way. The most I can do is veg/fruit smoothies.

I'm hoping the weight keeps coming off like it has and I get to lose more than 25 in the first month but I know I will stall soon. I wouldn't be surprised if i don't lose much in the following three weeks.

I did a two week liquid diet

how much you lose the first month is often related to your starting point. People who start with higher BMI's often (not always - but often) lose more the first month than those who don't.

Crazy how everyone does something different. I had one week liquid and now they put me on two weeks of the puree diet then I return for the final change to solids, I think.

I am just curios about what others lose on average. I've watched so many youtube vidoes and read so many blogs and the average I see for the first week was 7lbs, for the month is about 20lbs. Can't wait to see where I fall in this bracket.

I learned pretty quickly into this to ignore other people's rates of weight loss. Some are quick losers, some are slow. Provided you're being compliant, you don't have a lot of control over your rate of weight loss. If I'd have paid too much attention to how fast other people were losing, I probably would have gotten depressed and given up at some point, thinking there was no way I was going to lose all that weight. Just keep your nose to the grind stone and the weight will come off.

Honestly Im not concerned with comparing with others, I was just curious. I even got rid of my scale as I stated in a previous post because I don't want to be controlled by it. Trust me I know exactly what you talking about and that won't be me.

With hard work comes results

Congrats on your weight loss thus far!

My 2 cents: After being around OH for 2 years, I find posts asking about what the average weight loss is annoying and concerning. The reason is because so many people put too much care and value in others' stats, which are often non-applicable to anyone else. Everyone is different and if your initial weight loss is less, it doesn't mean you or the surgery have failed. I feel so bad for folks that are concerned about comparing their journey because too many get upset and depressed if their weight loss is slower than someone else's. Just asking this question now raises a red flag for me that the poster is emotionally fragile and may start self sabotaging if it takes them longer to lose weight. Please please try to not compare/worry about anyone else. There are so many factors and variables that contribute to someone's weight loss results that may not be obvious in a response. Follow your surgeon's plan and try out best practices you learn about on OH and you should be fine. :)

This was laughable to say the least and doesn't deserve a response. Thank you!
