losing weight after surgery

I lost about 25 lbs in my first month, and then stalled for close to the whole second month. So be aware that an early stall is super common! After that initial huge loss, I'd say I AVERAGE 1-2lbs a week, but it's in spurts and stalls. I'll go weeks without losing a pound, then drop 10 in one week.

congrats on all your weight loss so far! I can't wait to be at 80lbs lost. The stalling is exactly why I dont want to be weighting myself too much. I don't want anything to discourage me.

I admit I do weigh every day, but its generally not advised. It motivates me though, to stay on track and it keeps me from being in denial if I have a gain--I can look at my previous days eating and evaluate. If I eat poorly, I know I have to "face the music" so to speak, on the scale the next morning.

I can see your point! maybe I will start weighing daily at work and giving myself that mental break during the weekends so I don't stress over it.

were you constantly checking your weight or more sporadically?

I weigh every morning at approximately the same time--after I get up and use the bathroom, but before I shower and get dressed. I don't get on the scale at any other time of day. Water weight will fluctuate during the day, so I feel like morning is the most accurate time to. On the weekends I still get up at the same time (my cats are insistent upon eating breakfast at the same time every day--they don't understand weekend sleeping-in!) so I still weigh. It's just part of my morning routine now.

It varies with everybody. I started out slow. The 1st week, I lost all of 1.2 lbs. I cried at my 1st post op appt. The next week, I lost 7. I have lost 170 lbs all together and 120 since my surgery which was 11 months ago. Way to go on the weight loss.

wow, congrats! You did awesome. I know people that didnt lose and gained everything back but the girl did eat a BIG MAC a week and a half after surgery. I'm not even exaggerating.

I also lost 25 lb my first month, if you look around at large volume posts like the daily menu thread, you'll see a lot of people have their monthly weight loss in their signatures. I used that as an average for my goals (ie, most people lose 10 lb less month 2 than month 1 so if I lost 25 lb month 1 I want to lose 15 lb month 2)
