Extended Release Meds
Hi! I'm 10 years out and have, for the most part, kept my weight off.
I'm hoping someone will know, do we ever reach a point we can take Extended Release meds?

Totally depends on the patient and the med. For example, I now absorb my XR Focalin for ADD just fine... but it took a few years of playing around with options.
But when I was prescribed Prozac for menopause-related mood issues, it would hit so fast I would get dizzy and fall asleep. Had to play with that a lot and still don't have it quite right (but the other option is getting mad and throwing things at my kids so I keep playing around lol).

My pain management dr wants me to try Hysingla. It's time released hydrocodone.

Always consult your medical physician when dealing with any medications remember we are just wls post op patients not medical professionals with that said first and foremost
Modified-release dosage and its variants aremechanisms used in tablets (pills) and capsules to dissolve a drug over time in order to be released slower and steadier into the bloodstream while having the advantage of being taken at less frequent intervals than immediate-release (IR) formulations of the same drug.
It it looks like because our stomachs are small the time release medicine will never work. We absorb everything faster as soon as it hits your intestines it will no longer absorb into your system

I definitely don't get medical advice per se on the internet but hoped someone would have a similar experience to share.
That said, I no longer see a bariatric physician. My pain management Dr has said that the issues would either be that it has passed through me without getting full benefit. Not ideal but no harm done. Or I would absorb more than I want at a time. Again, not ideal but the side effects would be unpleasant. Nausea, diarrhea etc.
I am getting very close to needing back surgery and am doing all I can to postpone that.
I'm also very aware of the hydrocodone epidemic our country is facing. I never take more than subscribed. But my Norco no longer cuts it. He suggested oral morphine. That thought scares me (though I admit I've bot researched it). This or upping my norco are my other options. I more thought that without stomach acid would the coating on the pill be dissolved?
Im VERY conservative with these types of meds. But back surgery terrifies me.

I had my back Surgery before my bypass so I don't know about opioids and bypass but I can tell you that I took Dramamine for motion sickness as I always do before deep see fishing and the full dose hit me all at once and by the end of the four hot trip I was motion sick. Plan to talk to my primary doctor for a solution to motion sickness cause I won't be able to fly or fish again without it.

I'm so far out that most things are just life these days. Second nature.
My herniated discs were part of the reason my insurance approved. I was very hopeful weight loss would help. It didn't. I'm 51 now and know eventually I'll need surgery. I've tried it all...chiro, injections, meds, physical therapy. My TENS unit and moderate doses of Norco help the most. But it's getting worse....

I s hattered a disc and the shards of bone we're cutting into my nerves they were able to remove them and I have had no problems since. DH has 2 back Surgeries in a year he's doing better but still not 100% I understand your hesitation so good luck with any decision you make . Y
