How long after surgery until you are allowed to drive

I was approved to drive as soon as I was no longer taking pain meds (I didn't take many pain pills) but I waited I think about a week.

I had surgery on Wednesday, drove to the library on Friday -- but I was only taking liquid Tylenol during the day so didn't have any cognitive issues from the pain pills. My surgeon's restriction was "don't drive if you're taking the pain meds.

I was cleared the day I left the hospital (2 days post op) since I wasn't on narcotics. (I couldn't tolerate them).

I wouldn't have been able to drive though. I ended up waiting a week, more because I had nowhere I needed to go.

I would have been fine by day 4.
