Mornin'!

My 19-year-old kitty has an oncologist appt later this morning (I don't think we're going to treat it, given her age, but I want to see what he has to say and to know more about this cancer so we can be prepared for what's to come). I had to fast her for some reason, so she's really hungry. Poor girl - I''m trying not to look at her because I feel awful not feeding her!

other than the appt, I'm going to a presentation on far-right politics in Europe at one of the public libraries tonight. I'd also like to get some reading done for a class I signed up for (it starts at the end of September).

QOTD: I haven't been cleared to exercise yet (I had plastic surgery five weeks ago), but I have another post-op appt on Monday, so I'll ask. I'm guessing I'll be cleared to do at least a few things - probably not weights or Pilates yet, not sure about the pool, but we'll see. Otherwise, before surgery I was consistently going to aqua fitness classes twice a week (usually Aqua Zumba) and yoga three times a week. I'd occasionally do other things as well - weights, stationary bike, cross-trainer, Pilates.

3 years 3 months out:

B: homemade Greek yogurt with mango

MS: coffee with half & half, Miralax/protein chocolate latte shake

L: TJ's turkey breast slices and string cheese

AS: protein pumpkin pie

D: pork chop with fennel

Best of luck today with the vet - let us know what she is he says.

The far right movement in Europe is worrisome. Small countries in close proximity to one another, increasingly xenophobic, increasingly nationalistic, understandable given the upheaval of immigrant populations in the world, but historically so dangerous. Anyway, sounds like an interesting talk at the library.

the oncologist said he wouldn't recommend treating it. The tumor will likely come back in 3-6 months, and then it will most likely be another 6-9 months after it re-emerges that it becomes life-threatening. So that means anywhere from nine months to over a year. She is already 19 years old. He said it's quite possible she'll end up dying from something completely unrelated before that tumor gets to the point it's life threatening. He did say one of the drugs she's currently on has some effectiveness in delaying growth. She now gets a megadose of the drug once every two weeks, but he said for this purpose, it's better to get a tiny dose every other day. He was thinking since she was on that drug now *anyway*, doing the tiny doses every other day might be something to consider - it might bide us a couple more months. So I'm thinking I might do that...

Overall I think that is not the worst news, given her age, and it's in keeping with your instincts. But of course, it's always truly horrible to consider a beloved pet passing. May your kitty have a long, comfortable, and well-loved old age, defying all the odds!

Hi Everyone - I'm new here. I actually don't do much exercising. Prior to WLS I was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, and have had 3 spinal surgeries. Since then, pretty much anything I do for more than 2-3 minutes causes me intense back pain, so I just try to focus on my eating. (It's a good thing weight loss is like 90% what you put in your mouth!)

My menu for today is:

B - Oatmeal packet with added protein, and a little green apple, craisins, and walnuts

L - Sausages and a little rice

D - Chicken and collard greens

S - Half a sandwich w/Turkey and Swiss

Looking at what you guys are eating, it appears I'm the only one still ingesting any carbs... I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing. I'm a year and a half post surgery and met my goal of 175, but my nutritionist told me I wasn't getting enough calories, and that as long as I kept my carbs under 20g per meal, it was okay. Happy to hear anyone's thoughts on this.

Most people around here prefer to keep carbs low especially during the weight loss stage, and some may or may not add in some carbs after, but still don't eat them as regular staples. In my opinion though, if you're maintaining where you want, and are happy with where you are, you gotta find a way to eat that you will be able to sustain long term. Nobody here (generally) will food police you unless you're trying to lose more and ask for diet tips...in which case most people will tell you to drop the carbs ;)
