One other tip. Many of us consume full fat dairy products so you may want to try that instead of adding your protein powder to skim milk. Non-fat dairy products typically have more sugar and less protein & calcium than full fat ones. We need all the nutrients we can get in food, plus more fat is better for minimizing constipation.
I also like protein powder (whey protein isolate) from the company UNJURY. One of the flavors they offer is Chicken Soup. You can order single serving packets to try out the various flavors before committing to larger containers.

I didn't realize that about the additional sugars. I had switched to the fair life milk because of the higher protein but now I will compare all the labels!

I agree with Grim, way to early for chicken... This is one of the harder protein to get down due to it being dry. I have a friend that is 16 years out and she still can't eat chicken... I didn't try chicken until 6 months out. Back off as everyone has advised and take it slow

HoJo777,
My thoughts, 23 years post wls surgery that included RNY.
The first thing you have to do is stop the backfeeding. go back to liquids until your stomach feels settled. Then make sure you separate foods from fluids by the prescribed amount of time. Meinwhile, if you like hot chocolate, try one of the sugar free ones and add protein powder to 5 oz of hot cocoa. This was a way for me to get my protein in while awaiting on my pouch edema to subside. If that won't work for you add protein to chicken or beef broth.
Sounds like your acids are backing up from small bowel into stomach. try a little( one ounce) milk/antacid if you back feed.to calm down the symptoms..
SLOW your eating down... sounds like you are eating too fast for reduced capacity. chew each very small bite 10 times...we used ice cream tasting spoon...take your time taste your food. Choose one food to try...for several days at a time. If some meat will not stay down..give it a time and retry.
chicken took me a long time to get to stay. I kept getting hidden fat. try using a small peice of breast meat, dice and mash with a fork and add a teaspoon of chicken broth to it. and ma**** in. foods that are too dry, eaten too fast, not chewed extremely well and foods with hidden fats will be your biggest offenders. wait at least a week before you retry that food. If you have prepared several servings. put the foods in an ice cube tray and freeze.. then put in ziplock and label date. if plain meat and meat juices can be blended and used for soups.get only the best cuts of meats. for example hamburger meat in cheaper/lb verions have a lot more gristle and fat. you will not be able to digest either.
For example eggs... try them soft scrambled. NO grease.. only take a peice of paper towel and wipe the surface of non stick skillet. one egg+ one-2 teaspoon of milk, what ever kind you use...a little meat tenderizer might help but not a good practice to use it all time.
Hope these tips help you. I still use the same ones many years later.
Someone else also posted, but your food intake is so low, you need the fats of whole milk products. You actually need small amounts of fat in yourfood. it helps make you feel full and prevents onstipation. You can stop the over eating my doing a strict measurement of what you eat. My pouch would only accept 45 cc when it was first done. that lasted for 8 weeks til edema to subside...it is not just a brin issue. The nerves to/in your somach were cut. they no longer function to signal you are full. try eating a set amount...2 oz? for each meal, wait 10 min before you eat more. if still need to get more nutrition in.
Consider some experiments have been done on the effect of microwaving on nutrients. One of those involved 2 tomato plants. the one that got "only cooled microwaved water" was 1/4 size of its alternate by end of 6 weeks. all varibles were removed possible . plants same age and from same source.same soil. Seeing this experiment video, make me avoid the microwave.
Prevacid works better for me. prescription amont is 30 mg. some Drs increase that to 2 x a day for 3-5 days, then once daily... I still use it PRN for gastritis flares.
I wanted to add. I LIKE the Mindset of ..surgery is "NOT the easy way to lose weight".... because we lose weight we do not have to lose our brains.. The truth is , surgery is just tool, it works for a short time, in an incredible way. The way we choose to use it and learn the more about our tool and bodies the better our end result will be for our healthand the rest of our lives. It is not a magic fix.Learning ourselves and our needs/true desires is a good way to begin and contiunue each of our journey's. This is not a easy path, but it beats being so large we are disabled and unable to help ourselves or anyone else.
As of this morning I hit the lowest weight I have had in more than 14 years!( I hoovered within 10 lbs each way- for 4 years as I did a physically demanding job) I am within 2 lbs of my Origonal goal. I have averaged 10 lbs a year for the past 3 years. I will not change what i am doing, have not had any plastic surgery, and do have some excess skin. Unless I develop a herrnia or other necessary medical need for surgery, I will live with what I have. For those with excessive skin folds, I would uge you to have those removed if possible .
To those who are struggling several years post -op. Stress is a horrible assisant to weight loss. reduce stress, apply tools, and diet instructions. and weigh loss will follow.
There are ones on this board who have had tremendous difficulties with different surgeries.. As a general rule the closer you can tweak your diet to remain in the short term and long term guidelines given by the Dr who did your metaboic studies and surgery, the better your result will be.
To each new(er) surgery recipient. Just know, you are not the first one to have the problems you experience. Some are expected, some not. Learning to KNOW your personal response will make your journey a pleasant and safe. There are certain issues those who have had surgery tend toward. like....anemia's, gastritis, gall bladder issues, bone detoration, tooth loss. Each of these can be mitigated by nutritional supports and knowledge of how to apply/supply those.
There is one form of iron that supplys everything needed to absorb it...a dessicated liver -to address anemia's. It does not work fast, like an iron infusion. This is why I advocate others learning from my mistakes. I allowed my health to slide while I took care of others and ignored my NEEDS. As a result , it has taken me 2.5 years to get iron levels up to place I no longer have serious symptoms.I lost almost all of my teeth, they were not repairable. I took what was PRESCRIBED! I followed Drs orders..being acive on this board has enabled me to know what i needed to do different and encourage others to follow the lastest research in the areas of nutrition.
As A FYI Many people are not aware there are many forms of Vitamin K.
K1 is the form this physician has prescribed to encourage the clotting of blood.
early research of K2- indicates it moves the minerals around in the body to desired locations...moving magnesium, zinc, and calcium into the bones from the blood vessels where it can buid up and cause narrowing. They do not know HOW it works yet, but this is early research. With my limited diet it is almost impossible for me to get enough in my diet. I have added it to my regimine as it is about 5$ a month., so an affordable way to help manage the use of my magnesium levels which tend to plummet.
There are several more Vitamin K's in numbers from 3-8, there is not any info on what function these may have.
