Hello Everyone :)

I am new here today just looking for ideas and to talk to people who I share something in common with. I had gastric bypass on August 15th, so almost 3 weeks ago. I am doing pretty well sort of struggling with the whole pureed diet as a whole just because it's so unappetizing. To be honest I definitely didn't have any desire to eat anything whatsoever probably the first week. Sick of protein shakes, don't even want something bad, just want some grilled chicken and broccoli! Something with texture and flavor lol ;) My husband also had bypass on June 6th so we are in the same boat! I lost 42 lbs before the surgery and at my first post-op appointment I had lost another ten lbs ( they don't weigh you the day of the surgery which I find wierd).

I am going back to work on Thursday of this week and I am pretty nervous about people's reaction. Everyone I work with knows I was out for surgery but only a few people knew what kind. I am not sure I want to have that conversation, now or ever, but obviously people are going to have their own ideas. I just don't feel comfortable having that conversation with someone it makes me feel akward and I don't know how to minimize it. I know it's my choice to let people know or not know but I want to avoid any judgements by the women I work with, maybe unavoidably so. If anyone felt the same way or has any advice about this topic I would love your input :) thanks !

Welcome. I don't have a date for my surgery yet. I am meeting the nurse, dietician and social worker for the second time in Gelph. You will have a lot of support on this site and any questions you have they will be answerd. I am sure the people at your work will be surprised and you should be proud of yourself!!! GOOD LUCK

Hi and welcome-- the you describe your first few weeks is just how I felt. Honestly I skipped puréed foods altogether- I just stuck with Full liquids to soft foods. I was not blending anything or eating baby food.

re: work- I changed departments after surgery-- so no one in my new department knew I was off, very few in my old department saw me after. (Or if they do they do t recognize me). I do not discuss my surgery or weight loss at work. Practice your response... 'you look like you're losing weight-- what are you doing???' My answer was 'thanks I'm working on it'. No more, no less. Then change the subject.

Welcome, and congrats on your surgery! This is a great place to check in and share. Lots of great support and info! Consider joining the daily menu thread, it's a lot of fun and I find it very helpful.

I agree completely with Peach's response. If someone complements you on your weight loss, "Thanks! I'm working on it!" is all you need to say, and all anyone needs to know. People can be nosy and you may have some probing, especially as time goes on, but this should handle almost all inquiries. I had my hiatal hernia repaired at the same time I had my RnY, so that's what I told people - that I had my hiatal hernia repaired. The people who had to know were told, of course, but basically I feel it's your business and nobody else's, unless you want to clue them in.

Welcome. Three weeks is when I started enjoying chili; it is a favorite meal even today because it satisfies flavor, texture, and hunger well. Looking back, I wish I would have been more private with WLS details. I think the quickest, slickest way to divert attention away would be to ask questions about the other person's life.

Welcome and it's great that you're feeling good! Getting back to work and back to a routine was really helpful for me...being home and watching tv (so many food commercials!) just wasn't fun. I went back after one week.

When you have rapid weight loss, it's usually pretty clear to people that it was thanks to surgery - I mean, I lost 100 lbs in just over four months after surgery so it obviously wasn't from walking and eating chicken and broccoli. Some people choose to keep it to themselves, but I opted to casually mention it and leave it at that. If people said "omg look at you, you look amazing!" I would just say "oh thanks, yeah I had a procedure and since then I've been eating low carb and moving more" and keep it moving. Or if people said, "wow look at you, how are you doing it?" I would just say "Well I was healthy but knew if I wanted to stay that way, I had to lose some weight, so I had a procedure and I have been eating low carb and moving more". No one ever pressed for details unless they were morbidly obese, at which point I would answer any further questions (honestly, most people didn't press for details). The only thing I would not ever answer is "how much have you lost?" because I never wanted to say (other than on this forum) how much I lost since it was so embarrassing!!! I would just say "eh, I'm not actually disclosing that". Honestly, I was fortunate to feel very supported by my family, friends and coworkers. People who have your best interest at heart want you to be healthy and live a long time so I am sure you will find a lot of very supportive people!

Good luck!

I skipped the pureed foods, except I did have split pea soup that was dehydrated so the consistency was like puree and it tasted so good. I remember at that time everything tasting too sweet. Don't be in a hurry for solid food anything too dry may not set very well with your new pouch.

I have told most of the people I work with about my surgery, mostly to avoid the issue of going out to lunch all the time. I used to eat out most days and I really don't now. It's hard to be protein forward on some restaurant choices. I do still go about 1 day a week depending on where they are going and the food type. I really only like to go for the social aspects.

For a protein source I would recommend trying the sample pack of Syntrax Nector protein powders. I bought mine on Amazon and I got 15 different flavors, so you can try them before you buy a 2lb size. My favorite is Roadside Lemonade, Fuzzy Navel, & Twisted Cherry. 1 scoop is 100 calories and 23g protein, the protein is whey protein isolate.

Good luck!
