Thoughts on this as a backup option

I do the same thing.

I have a pre-portioned serving (28 nuts/170 calories) of almonds or walnuts stashed in my car, my purse, my briefcase, my desk at the office, and even in my night stand!

Sometimes I feel like it is an obsession for always having snacks on me. I lay them out the night before if I am going off island so that I will be sure to have something... but on the other hand I do not ever find myself in a bad situation. And the less I have to be in the same room as a donut, or a taco, or a cheeseburger, the better ;)

Donut rooms. Oh they are evil.

I always, always have beef jerky with me. I buy the Tillamook slab jerky and cut it into little strips.

I also will always have cheese sticks, and Chocorite bars... 100 calories. They do not taste so good that I really look forward to them ;). I use Premier Protein shake as my creamer, and when I am out all day I can get coffee and use my protein shake instead of milk. I do not use nuts so much anymore... the P3 snack packs do not satisfy me and they are a lot of calories.

I put these in Ian's lunch bag every day in a somewhat vain attempt to offer an alternative to carbs. Not sure they're filling to a 6ft 6" teenager, but they're perfect size for us!

My son can Hoover those down.

I would try this -- I am not huge on protein drinks when I am hungry -- but I still use them enough. Sometimes I just need something fast and to boost my protein.

My only warning is about the monk fruit -- which I love the taste of, btw. For a significant number of people, monk fruit DOES cause a rapid rise in blood glucose levels. Not everyone -- but for enough that you should watch for it.

Having been an insulin dependent diabetic before losing all my weight, I tend to test my blood sugar after all new foods -- and monk fruit causes me a very strong peak unlike stevia or even splenda. My body tends to react to it more like sugar -- and then plummet rapidly back down. I do not have this issue with other low-calorie/non-sugar sweeteners.

I have to watch my intake of monk fruit.

For that reason, if I were to try this, I would do it first at home to ascertain if it would cause a RH reaction for me.

Oh, that is a great suggestion. I have been very careful to only try things at home to see how they react but had not thought about adding the science to it!

I've wondered about monkfruit and how it may affect those of us that get RH or dumping from fruits. Considering how violently my body reacts to fruit sugar...I'm hesitant to try it.

Most people have absolutely no reaction. It's definitely worth trying.
