What's on your Saturday men RNYers?

Morning weekenders! I'm not sure whether Erin is back home yet to get us started but I am up and have Internet access so I'll start things off.

The last two days have been really rotten for me. Thursday I got very sick on the train going to work and spent the rest of the day trying to stay hydrated and resting. By evening I was able to keep some soup down so that was good.

Then Thursday evening our landline and Internet service went down. Not having Wifi is a real pain when we use it for so many things. The technician is coming out this morning to hopefully get us back online. In the meantime we've used our cells as hotspots to get some service but it isn't as fast or as good but I was able to do a bit of work at home yesterday.

Friday morning after I dropped DW off at work, I watched a man be hit by a Suburban and killed in the street. It is a very busy area a block from the DC train station with lots of early morning commuters running across the streets. Also there is a large homeless community of tents and they are often wandering in the street too. I spent the rest of the day really struggling not to think about seeing that.

On a good note, I was able to refocus and have a great workout with my trainer. I worked hard, did alot of sweating (and grunting!) and felt much better afterward. Exercise is such a release for me and I miss it when I can't get it in!

Today is waiting for the phone tech and hoping that everything can be fixed and not too expensively. Then maybe a trip to Trader Joe's and a stop at a couple of thrift stores for beads for DW's projects. Also it isn't supposed to be too hot and humid so I may go out and do some weeding and trimming in the yard.

Okay enough whining for now...

QOTD: As I was saying earlier, I really feel a bit lost without my Wifi. We read e-books, work from home, email, stream videos for entertainment and workouts, and more. That said, being "connected" all the time can be really draining. Do you have "off the grid" days? Do you ever take hours or days totally away from being connected by cell, Wifi, etc.? Or are you always online? This has made me think about scheduling a day or two of off the grid vacation. Time where I'm not tethered.

Menu: a little up in the air depending on what happens today.

B: ham, coffee

Snack: protein shake w/ iced coffee

Not really sure for the rest of the day although I'd like to have some fish or a crab cake. I will pack some chomps in my bag to tide me over wherever I am.

Have a great day everyone!

That does sound like a rough couple of days. Whining allowed.

QOTD: I don?t schedule away time I think it naturally happens. I will turn off the ringer when I?m with friends. It?s lije a Pavlov?s dog thing responding to a beep if it comes in.

edit because I forgot food. Ha.

B: Overnight Oats, latte

L: tuna melt

D: shrimp and veggies tbd

S: Greek yogurt, protein powder

Morning menu peeps! Happy Saturday!

Janet, your last two days sound rough! I hope that you're feeling better from whatever bug hit you on Thursday. Witnessing an accident like you did on Friday would be hard for me to shake, too. I'd probably spend days just praying for the person and their loved ones. I'm glad that exercise is so cathartic for you.

Last night I went to a volleyball game with a friend at the University of Washington to see her daughter play against San Diego. Those girls are really, really good players, and they are really, really tall! The majority of the team members are over 6', with many 6'2" and 6 '3". Tall! Washington won, but it was a challenge, and a dramatic game. I had a good time. It did mess my eating schedule up, though, and I ended up having dinner very, very late, when I got home.

Tonight I was invited to a luau at the local country club, which probably means ham or pork for dinner. I'll taste the poi since I've never had it, but will only have a taste, and will leave the also-likely-to-appear pineapple alone. These events usually offer limited options food-wise for me, but there's always at least one thing I can eat, and it's nice to socialize.

QOTD: I don't schedule unplugged days, but I really should, because whenever I am unplugged at night, I feel very at peace. This will likely happen for me during the winter on this island, as storms here are known to knock out internet access and sometimes power altogether. I love just using candlelight to read by, and love making a fire in the fireplace. With no computer, tablet or tv, with no cable news, and especially when there's no electricity, everything seems to reset to the 19th century, calmer and slower. Human speed instead of electronic jangle. I find it very soothing.

First: tea. Funny how I, a former caffeine fiend, have come to favor tea for everyday over coffee!

B: Ham with Swiss cheese melted on top

L: shrimp

D: probably pork or ham, or whatever protein option is being served.

S: Greek yogurt with a handful of blackberries.

Wishing everyone a lovely Saturday!

I was never much of a tea drinker either until recently! I started abusing tea as a means to avoid evening snacking and now it's a solid coping mechanism throughout the day!

but I still have my morning coffee if only because I prefer it with Premier over tea :P

Good morning everyone~ Janet, I'm sorry to hear you had a rough few days. I've never witnessed anything like that and can't imagine how i would be left feeling. Hugs to you sweet lady. Today we are ACTUALLY going to see Robs dad and step mom, we are leaving in about an hour. They live in palm dessert and it will be HOT today, but only about 100ish and not 120, so that is a plus. It will be a LONG day driving for just a few hour visit -but Rob does not want to stay over. We were going to try to see my son also, but he is working today and can't met us ;(. WE will be going down to visit him at the end of Sept. I have a couple of other trips planned in Sept so it will be a busy month. This whole summer has been pretty busy. I think we are just gonna stay home for all of Oct.!

QOTD - I rely far too much on my phone and computer for everything. I'm obsessed with being organized. The calendar, notes and reminders especially, but also email, bank/budget/bills, spreadsheets (yes, I love them) MFP, OH and I look up everything that crosses my mind - total instant gratification! I'm on a lot and it drives Rob nuts because he would rather unplug - he hates the phone. I can unplug when I need to easily enough since I am so on top of everything and could tell you my exact bank balance any time day or night! It'll all be there when I get back

Accountability - great

21mo post op - 156.1

b-coffee and yogurt, SB on the road

l-thai chicken lettuce wraps out with the folks

d-burger no bun somewhere on the road or gas station protein find

es - maybe yogurt w/progranola when I get home

e- bowling? ha

Have a great day!

Good Morning Janet and Menu Family!

Wow, Janet, you've been through a LOT lately! I'm so sorry!

I'm sorry you had a rough day!

im making hot pepper jelly this morning and this afternoon/evening we're going to an outdoor rock concert (Arson City, Gemini Syndrome, From Ashes to New, and Stone Sour headlining).

Qotd: I kind of think of gardening as my "off the grid" time. I'm generally out there without my phone or any sort of screen device unless I specifically want to take pictures of stuff. I stare at a computer 40 hours a week, so at home I tend to do more listening to music while I clean, reading (a real book) and playing outside.

Breakfast: eggs and bacon! Then I'll have some coffee with SF pumpkin Spice creamer. Yes I'm one of those people!

lunch: leftover Chinese food. My cousin came over for movie night and we ordered in. I got broccoli beef and steamed veggies instead of rice. I have about 2 more meals.

dinner: I'll have a protein shake on the way to the show. There will be food trucks there but I'm never sure if there will be good options. Last show we went to had a BBQ truck, so if that's there, DH and I might share the insides of a pork sandwich (they pile em pretty high)

Morning pouch peeps! Hope you are feeling better Librarian-- you were one-two'ed by physical and mental stuff.

I've finished my run- did a full seven miles today. I was a bit fueled by anger for the runner who was killed in Iowa- thinking that it was so unfair for her and her family. Came home and dressed, debated going to get a pedicure but opted to save the $25 and grabbed my tools and did it myself. Later on I'll do my nails- I have an urge to paint them scarlett letter red :-). I'll head to a few stores today- nothing is urgent though.

qotd: I'm reasonably connected IMO. I don't feel the need to disconnect totally, I only selectively respond to messages, emails etc. and I'd rather have access to reach out or respond to folks as I need to. Being a Mom of teens- I feel like I may not be disconnected till they are 25 :-)
