I'm confused with meal plan
I'm one week after bypass surgery and now can eat mushy food. I am suppose to eat at least 6 times per day. One ounce of something like egg whites, refried beans, cottage cheese. Also I required lots of liquids and protein drinks. I am not to drink anything 1/2 hour before or after a meal. How do I get all the liquids in if I can't drink in between eating?

You just have to be drinking any time you're not eating. I'd set my alarm when I finish drinking, when it went off, I'd have my meal, set the alarm Again, and when it went off, start drinking. Just repeat as you can. It can be hard at first because you still have swelling so less capacity. My surgeon said to do the best I could, with a focus on fluid to make sure to avoid dehydration at first. At the point you are at, protein drinks were key for me to hit both fluid and protein requirements. Be sure to follow your particular surgeon's plan because you are still healing. All the plans are different.

There us really no reason to stop drinking 30 minutes before eating. Fluids go right through, so 30 minutes is pointless.
Not drinking during or 30 minutes after eating is very important though.

I've noticed a lot of surgeons say 30 minutes before eating as well (I ignore that part)

my surgeon's office told me 30 before/30 after while I was on liquids and purees, but once I got to solid food, they said I didn't have to worry about the 30 before anymore. It didn't really make sense to me, but whatever.... At any rate, I've been drinking up to the point of eating for a very long time...
I also was told not to worry about not drinking a half hour before. The clinic drilled it in to us at all the pre-op appointments and even dietician meetings and then at my one month post op dietician appointment she said if you had the RNY you actually don't have to wait a half hour before eating only after. I wish they would be clear on that from the beginning, so much more important you get your fluids in then anything else!
