2 Months Post op. Barely eating, stomach always feels queasy. Please Im desperate for your...
Hello everyone! My name is Nicole and I am new here. I had Gastric Bypass on June 25th and my highest weight was 281 and since the surgery my weight now is 238. As far as the weightloss, yes I'm happy. What worries me is I am BARELY able to eat anything. Im at the stage where I am, I am able to eat solids, although meats give me a hard time and I dont push what my body cant handle. But the problem is, almost EVERYTHING tastes so...different (either too sweet, too salty, too this or too that) OR what I can eat makes my stomach kind of feel queasy. I did a lot of research before surgery but no amount could have ever prepared me for the way I feel. My stomach doesnt hurt per say, it just feels queasy all the time. Even the smell of food makes me nausous. I know im not eating nearly enough as I should be, and when I eat (like right now I had a little yogurt and barely finished half) I couldnt eat anymore. Also, this yogurt was what Ive eaten all day as I just cant eat. I am also taking omeprazole, all my required vitamins (calcium, iron, b12 and multi) and have no troubles drinking water but the food situation just has me very worried. The only thing I can seem to hold down is an ice here and there. I will be bringing this up to my surgeon on my next visit but I figured Id ask you all since you all been there gone through that sorta thing. So my question is have any of you gone through this period where you just aren't eating nearly enough? Will I ever be able to at least eat a little again? I feel so down lately like this surgery was a mistake and that this feeling just wasnt worth the tradeoff in losing weight. I seriously hope the way I feel isn't going to be permanant and any advice/help would be so appreciated. Thank you all so much.
Good evening! I'm so sorry you're having such a rough experience. The first thought I have is your fouid intake. You mentioned that you're getting in enough water, do you know how many ounces? Dehydration can definitely cause nauseousness. I'm not sure when your appt is with your surgeon for your follow up but it might be a good idea to give the office a call and maybe talk to a nurse to run your symptoms by them. I do hope that you start to feel better soon, hang in there it will get better.
Dehydration may be an issue. Also you may need to eat more frequently. I don' t experience hunger at all and I am 5 years out. I suggest eating something more solid and less acidi than yogurt - cottage cheese, ricotta bake, deli meats and cheeses, Chili, lentil Dahl, etc every 2 to 3 hours. I eat 5x a day. It keeps my blood sugars level, my nausea at bay and my energy level stable.
I also drink a minimum for 4 lifters a of fluid a day, spread evenly throughout the day and evening. You might try water enhancers too, as just plain water makes me nauseous if I don't have it interspersed with flavoured water, coffee and tea.
You may also need to be on a PPI - are you taking one now? This was standard for 6 months in my surgical practice but things change over time so I would discuss with your surgeon at your next visit.
Good luck - hope something clicks and you feel better soon!
Are you on any anti nauseous medications? I was on Zofran for a couple months post op because, according to my surgeon, most people experience queasiness after surgery. Also any anti acids? Or just getting off those?
