Gaining weight on clear liquid diet

Clarifying question - are you still pre op or did you have your surgery? From the first post, I was thinking you were on pre op liquid diet but when you mention progressing to soft foods, I think I must have mis read.

If you're only a few days post op, it's not quite so unusual; they pump you full of gas, fluids, etc for the surgery. I came home from the hospital heavier than I went in but by the end of the first week home had started to drop that gain plus progress forward. (I think this is why I was told not to weigh myself the first week...but I didn't listen).

Obviously, you should follow the plan your surgeon gave you but I agree with Cassie, focus more on the squishy protein than the cream of wheat, etc if you can.

P0st Op. I was on clear liquids 2 days pre op and now 8 days post op.

If you add your surgery type and date to your profile, troubleshooting issues will be easier :)

i agree--if you're post op, my advice changes a bit. You're likely still swollen and bloated from the surgery. Walk walk walk and sip your fluids when you're not walking. It will go away.

I'm sorry, but your original post said it was a prop diet. If this is tgge first 8 days AFTER surgery, it's a completely different story. Almost everyone comes home from the hospital weighing more than they went in. I gained 11 pounds overnight from surgery. It's just from allmof the fluids they pump into you.

Started all clear liquids 8/5 for pre-op surgery and am still on liquid diet today 8/13. How could I be gaining with only water and protein drink? I have gained 10 pounds!

You stated pre-op but then you later say you're barely post-op. I'm confused. Everyone gains weight after laparoscopic surgery (and not just bariatric surgery). This is due to the gas pumped into your body as well as the IV fluids. Now you know.

Liquid diet 2 days pre and 11 days post. I did not know I would gain weight and now I feel better knowing it is normal. I have started losing now. Thanks for the help.
