Anyone else get mood swings? I can go from wanting to laugh to wanting to cry in 0.3 seconds for no reason...and if there is a reason I?m done for. At this time I?m 100% avoiding all ASPCA commercials with ?Arms of the Angels? playing in the background cuz I?ll lose it :(

I have major mood swings. But I thought most of mine were from getting the iud right before I had surgery. I hadnt been on any form of birth control for 5 years. Lately I go from being depressed to very angry for no reason

Hormones are stored in fat. You're burning fat, and all those hormones have to go somewhere. You might have a bit of a rocky ride for a bit.

I agree with Grim about the fat and hormones, but want to also add that the major changes in your body and your habits post-WLS can really mess with your mind. All of a sudden your body is changing, you are (hopefully) dealing with stress in ways that don't involve food, you have to eat completely differently and may not be able to have food that you love, you may still feel tired sometimes as your body uses its energy to heal, etc. etc. I still struggle with some of these issues about 18 months and 125 pounds from surgery. It is alot more to adjust to than just getting your guts cut. Be gentle with yourself, find supportive people (including a therapist possibly) to talk to, take eating one bite at a time and know that this is for your health not just to get skinny.

Also many of us find it helpful to log into OH daily, including the RNY menu thread, for support and accountability. Hearing what others are going through is really helpful!

Thank you everyone, my apologies for being MIA, it?s the start of the semester and I was prepping my classes.

I didn?t know that hormones are stored in fat...and my doc didn?t warn me about mood swings. I knew to be mindful of the fact that the journey is a long one but the health benefits outweigh that. The mood swings come out of nowhere and I?ve never had them to this extent before. Once the semester gets into full swing I plan on making an appointment with a psychologist locally who specializes in working with bariatric patients. Thank you for teaching me something both new and important today.
