Methadone and surgery
I am going to have surgery soon and I take methadone. I was just wondering if anybody on here was also taking methadone. How was your surgery? Was ur pain contracted? How does the methadone work for you now that you've had surgery? I'm just really worried about having surgery being on methadone and the pain medicine not working afterwards. Please let me know what your experience was. A little back history I was never a heroin addict or anything like that.. I was on pain management for a very long time (brain tumor and Endometriosis)and when I decided to come off it was really badd for me and the doctors suggested methadone and the methadone actually worked extremely well for my chronic pain.
I was so confused when I read this, I had to actually google this. I think this is something that your doctor is best able to answer. That stuff scares me including all those others opioids.

No experience with methadone, but I had nothing more than Tylenol from the day following surgery. There was a little discomfort, but nothing requiring opioids.
I was caring for my 11 month old the day after and joined a walking group 3 days later.
I'm not superhuman, but I didn't expect this to be either pain free or out of control pain. I knew what the discomfort was (I'd had surgery) so wasn't scared there was anything wrong.
If you have already had an opioid addiction, I would follow whatever pain protocol is on your plan and agreed by your doctor!

I second what the others said-- ask your doctor. However after surgery I wasn't on any pain meds and I was fine! It really doesn't hurt that much at all. Good luck to you!

I do not apologize for my existence no matter how uncomfortable it might make you.
Your surgeon will have to coordinate with your pain doctor for a plan.
Methadone is very long acting. Adding a short acting pain reliever requires expertise.
You will not be able to take any NSAIDS post surgery. Things like Advil.
I required pain medication after surgery. I would not have surgery until a solid pain plan is done.

I don't have any experience in this area but it is very wise to make sure your Dr is aware and coordinated with anesthesia. I have read a few stories on the boards but everything is so individual but please make sure this plan is understood by everyone involved before you have surgery
Have you had surgery yet? I had surgery 9/10/18 and they were able to manage my pain fine in the recovery room, but after that I only needed Tylenol. I tried talking to my doctor about methadone, but neither my surgeon or prescribing doctor had much information on how I would absorb methadone after surgery. I have noticed that I only need about half of the dose I was taking prior to surgery, otherwise it puts me to sleep. Hope this helps.
