What's on your (PHOTO) Friday Menu, RNYers?
Happy Friday all!
JB, I'm glad that you have a co-captain again and hope that that works out well. I'm sorry that it is so stressful and please do work at taking care of yourself as much as possible. I also hope that you get some down time this weekend with Grim and the kitties!
Well, yesterday's appointment with DW and the neurologist had some good info and some big question marks. I really appreciate the doctor's hard work already in trying to figure this out and do all he can for her. Her MRI several weeks ago showed "white spots" or scar tissue of unknown origin. There are many things that could cause it, so they did lots of bloodwork. The results showed that she didn't have many things, such as MS or a stroke...good news. She does, however, have mild Vitamin D and Vitamin B12 deficiencies, as well as low level markers for Lyme disease. She will first be treated for all three to see how she responds, which are all pretty easy "fixes". The bad news is that the neurologist doesn't think that he can reverse the spots, but he hopes that if they can figure out what is causing them, he can treat her to prevent more and to help her cope with the memory loss and confusion that are being caused by the spots. She is also scheduled for an MRI-Angio of the brain to see if she has vascular blockages. She may also have to have a angiogram for more diagnostics. In the meantime, she is really struggling and I am trying to be supportive in ways that don't include donuts!
I am planning to work with my trainer today for an hour being very careful to protect my toe. I also hope to do some swimming this weekend since that doesn't involve any pressure on the foot. No hiking or kickboxing yet. Boo hiss!
My other weekend project is continuing to work on cleaning up our sunroom to make it into a workout area. It has been a catch-all room for most of the 8 1/2 years we have lived in this house. We also have had some dampness, so there is alot of crap with dust and mildew to clean, donate, throw away and move. Very hard and dirty work, but it is obvious where I have cleaned and where I haven't. Bleach and Comet are getting most things clean, so that is good news but lots of mopping and scrubbing on my hands and knees with steel wool. I'm excited about the possibilities, though...having my own mini-gym to workout in.
QOTD: I am a pretty shrewd shopper and thanks to Hillary, I keep my eyes on Swap.com for good deals. I also managed to get some of the gym equipment on CraigsList and at Walmart for alot less money than ordering on Amazon or going to a sporting goods store.
Menu: no exercise this week and too many stress-induced carbs, have made the scale go up 2.5 pounds. Taking tighter control again and going to refocus on my protein. Also the change from daily cardio to more weight training may be shifting the scale some too.
B1: vanilla Premier Protein shake, coffee, 5 almonds
B2: HB egg, ham
L1: chicken kabob, baby carrots
Post-gym lunch: Cappuccino protein shake/iced coffee, chomps
Dinner: not sure, hopefully steak, brussels sprouts

It's good that there are some things they can try for DW; sometimes I think medical treatment is just as much a guessing game as anything else. Hope this helps!

I hope the treatment plans show positive results for DW. I hope you are able to get in the pool this weekend sounds like you'll be busy in your sun/workout room. It is nice to have a room to work-out in at home when I want to, like when I need to use the punching bag for my mental health (wait...is that a good or bad thing!?!?).
It sounds like DW's doctors are taking this seriously and have a good plan on next steps. Hopefully it will help DW get back to herself soon.

So sorry to hear about the down part of the days, especially your former student. Hope you get a little mental recovery in this weekend!

Love, love, love that shirt! NYMom222, you are amazing. JB, it sounds like you need to carry your food with you from now on when at work.
I took DH to 2 outdoor concerts yesterday (afternoon and evening). Different genre but both very good. Some of you may know that people with Alzheimer's (like DH) retain the musical parts of their brain the longest and DH has always loved music, so I am seeking it out. You have to love Cape Cod especially in the summer for this kind of thing!
