Today's appointment

I really wish I could just have my follow up appointments all with my doctor. But that is not how the 'practice' does it. Seriously, I got nothing out of this appointment. Well, maybe I got that my labs are spot on. I told the nurse practioner about the dizzy spells and she said, 'I don't know what to tell you about that' also I told her about feeling tired all of the time and she said, 'I don't know what to tell you about that.' .Then she tried to tell me that I had to come back in 6 months. I said, I already had an appointment with Dr. Halbert for my year out appointment. She had the nerve to tell me would talk to the doctor about that. She also told me I probably wouldn't lose any more weight but that I've done a good job. I really had a hard time listening to her tell me everything I need to keep doing. Ugh... what a waste of time.

You can't measure your achievements with someone else's yardstick!

Totally sounds like a waste of your time. Can you call and ask for an appt with your surgeon?

I haven't seen the surgeon since 6 weeks out. Follow up appointments for me are with a PA. Fortunately mine is on the ball.

Prove that NP wrong!

Yeah, so many people's follow ups sound like that. My clinic is pretty good, but they also declared me a success when I got to 230lbs, and said I was done losing....and then again when I was 200...etc

i am so thankful for the boards here. If I had only relied on what I was told at my clinic, I probably would be 200 pounds, and eating crackers twice a day. (Literally the advice I'm given every time I've been)

i just go through the motions, get the results of my blood work and get out as quick as I can hahaha

Did you get a copy of the lab results? Do they test the ferritin? It seems like many practices do not order the ferritin which is so odd. When mine dropped to 4.5 I was so tired it took every ounce of strength in me to get simple things done.

As for the NP I would call the office and express your concerns that she couldn't answer any of the questions you asked. If you are going to work in a medical office regardless of what the specialty is you need to know your stuff. Telling a patient "I don't know what to tell you about that" is unacceptable in my eyes. Sorry you had to deal with that. And stick to your guns about seeing your doctor for your one year appointment. Don't let them change it on you.

Does Dr. Pohl's office check your ferritin? Mine wasn't in my lab work so I had to ask my PCP. I see Jeremy for follow ups and he is good but that frustrates me.

I'll be honest I haven't been back to Dr. Pohl's since 1 1/2 years after my revision. They never did the ferritin and even when my Vit D was low it didn't seem like a big concern to them just keep taking the vitamins is what I was told. I had seen both Jeremy and Holly (I think that was her name). But it was always the same thing so I just go to my PCP and she was the one who found my ferritin was so low. Anything I ask her for (besides pain meds) she has no issue ordering.

I like Dr. Pohl, but the follow-up just seems like a cattle drive to me. Get'm in and out as quick as possible. I know you've seen how busy the office can be and I've waited over 2 hours when I had an appointment.

My PCP runs everything and extra stuff that I ask her for. She had zero issues referring me to a hematologist last year when my ferritin tanked. Within a week of her referring me I had an appointment. Hopefully yours is OK, but if it is low make sure you speak up and get to a hematologist asap.

You really have to be your own advocate it seems after WLS.
