Is this what dumping syndrome is?

We have a rule of thumb ... if you have to ask, it's not dumping. It's soooo bad, you will not be in any doubt. I have had people call an ambulance for me, it's so scary to watch and even scarier to go through.

Liquid or soft sugar are the worst culprits for me, which is why I haven't had ice cream in 14 years and always double check drinks to make sure they are sugar free/diet. Fast food places/Starbucks are the worst culprits for giving you full sugar drinks. I always ask as they're handed to me, but I've still been given the wrong thing. Now, I can taste the difference immediately.

Not everyone dumps and some people are able to adapt by continuously "testing" with more and more sugar, so noone can rely on it to keep them on track!

Here is my experience related to your two questions: 1) About eleven months post-op, I drizzled pure maple syrup over a cup of hot oatmeal; it took less than five minutes to feel dizzy, shaky, and sick. I staggered to the bedroom hanging onto the walls like a drunk. I either passed out or fell asleep for a couple of hours thankful to wake up feeling like the worst was over. Today, there are two things on this earth that make me look away like a Pavlov dog-- they are a pregnant woman and a bottle of pure maple syrup. The sensitivity to sugar has lessened over time but still there in a more mild form. 2) I have found a chewable tablet (brand name Gas-X) that helps with the discomfort of gas.

might just be that acidic foods are hard on your stomach. They are mine. I have to be careful around things like tomatoes and many fruits (and coffee, too) - too much and I get reflux.

Wow! I feel a lot more educated right now. I feel I must have had that that one day after eating the turkey and tomato sauce since I had cramps that made me actually scream out and after fell into a comatose sleep. It didn't even have sugar but it seems anything tomato based sets off some uncomfortable symtoms, with that one day being the worst.

I will continue to test and figure out what works and what doesn't.

Thank you all!

I feel as if dumping isn't just the "curled up on the floor, passing out while sweating" routine.

From what I have heard from a few docs is that it could be that, but it could also be milder and not as extreme.

I experience heart palpitations, abdominal cramping and then diarrhea within 30 minutes if I have had too much sugar. And then it's pretty much all over.
