I was really glad that I had seen people talking about big pouch days and little pouch days -- at least I knew it was "normal"!

Good morning!

It's been a great week off. We travelled north to stay in a cabin on a lake. We rented 4 cabins side by side for my parents and siblings (and families). It was so much fun. Plenty of kayaking, and fishing (out of the kayaks). I caught a 30" northern pike which dragged me around the lake for a while, got bored of that and then bit the line. I didn't really like the thought of his teeth thrashing around in the kayak with me anyway. I had him up beside the boat briefly and saw him beside me. That was good enough for that monster. If I'd had a net and a bigger boat, I'd have taken him and brushed up my pike-cleaning skills. I caught a ton of perch and small bass (keepers, but we had so many we threw them back). The best part was catching 2 trophy-size smallmouth bass (20" and 21", 4.5 and 5 lbs). We had enough fish for 2 meals for all of us, plus brought some home after giving a meals' worth to the owners. There was a family with a pontoon boat a couple of cabins down that couldn't catch a cold, and started to follow us around when they saw us go out in the kayaks with rods trolling. They didn't catch much (2 small bass). They buzzed my brother-in-law in his kayak, 30' from him, so the owners of the camp had words with them as he nearly flipped over. I was on the other side of a reed bed and saw them but couldn't tell what was happening because I was far enough away.

We had a pop-up storm come in while out on the kayaks, a 2 hour paddle from shore. That was an adventure, and made for some hard paddling. We hunkered down on the sheltered side of an island and rested, then made for camp a few times, stringer full of fish in tow. A couple of times I was out there for 10 or 11 hours (I had protein bars and water with me), and used some islands for washrooms and kayak breaks as needed, alternating between fishing and just enjoying the sunsets.

We hiked, swam, and explored the little tourist spots and all had an amazing, relaxing time. Very much worth the drive. It was pretty great to see my daughters catch little fish off the dock, take them off the hook themselves and bait the hook again. Without exaggeration, they caught and released probably 80 fish a day (little guys). You could hear them screaming and giggling clear across the camp.

There was a fire ban, which was a bit of a bummer, but a huge bonus, I survived the week without ONE bite from a mosquito, deer fly, horse fly or black fly. It was strange but they just never found me. Usually I'm annihilated by them.

Accountability: LOL I'm not going there. I stayed out of the beer and wine though, I just don't have an appetite for it anymore.

Menu: Back to reality. Protein bar/Coffee for lunch. Snack is cottage cheese, berries and a bit of Vector cereal. Lunch is chili. Supper is unknown but on point.

QOTD: My wife and I have found "Brooklyn 99" and are watching our way through that. Hilarious. We usually go for shows like "Blue Bloods" or Breaking Bad, etc. so this lighthearted change is welcome.
