I love love boxing/sparring/kickboxing (although I love the kick part less). It's great cardio and strength and I find it a huge stress release. When I first started, I was a little bothered by how much I liked it, because I'm not an angry person, lol. Even just shadow boxing is good to me! I've tried spinning but haven't found an instructor that I liked -- they seem to all yell way too much for me!
ove done Zumba and belly dancing classes (at home, off amazon prime); they are fun and I get a workout and some laughs in. This week I'm doing an aerial toning class tomorrow and then a bungee workout on Sunday.
Do you think you could do a lower intensity walk be a workout walk? I know the mental aspect of a nice walk can be as important as the exercise!

I do a cardio kick boxing class, a regular boxing class (with heavy bags, etc.) spin, weight lift and TRX. While I find that I'm stronger from the cardio classes, and my legs have toned, the only thing that actually changes my body is the boxing and the weight lifting. The boxing because using the heavy bags makes it a resistance class and the weights because . . . well, they're weights and I'm building muscle.
Good info!

I think it depends on your personality to be honest...I love love love group classes. They push me to do so much more than I do on my own. Right now I am doing toning classes, Pilates classes, spin classes, and "hit the bag" and kickboxing classes. I wasn't sure how much I would love the boxing but I love it! I sweat like a pig and I can really hit the crap out of the bag. I totally feel strong and like an ass-kicker. Perhaps try some different classes. I found that no one ever looked at me like I didn't belong - they are all thinking about their own posture/strength/workout. The nice thing about spin is that you can control how hard or easy the resistance is. So work your way up! I think strength training is the best for muscle mass. Let us know what you end up doing!
I've enjoyed riding my bike (before surgery) so that is why I have considered spinning. It just sounds so intense, but I'm open to trying a few classes to see how it goes.
We already pay for a yearly family membership at the aquatic center, which also has a small weight room and some cardio equipment. The only classes that they offer are water classes and I do love those and try to go regularly.
I just started doing weight training with a personal trainer at his gym and am enjoying that. He really pushes me and that is a new challenge.
I'm just not sure about paying for another gym membership for too many classes, so I'm watching GroupOn for specials and short term commitments to try things and find out what I really like.

Gyms and classes are one of those things I will spend money on. I figure, I save money each month that I used to spend on take-out and delivery (though now I tend to buy high quality and expensive protein so it's not like I save $500!) and I figure, if it's an investment in my health, it's worth it. At least that is what I tell myself when I see my monthly credit card statement ;)
Quick post today before I wake hubby. QOTD I listen to either country or contemporary Christian music. Accountability was good yesterday with 11,548 steps and no extra bites. Post op 5 years 10.75 months and weightvat 119.4. Not enough fluids yesterday so that's a goal for today. Lily and I got our 4 miles in already and will do another after supper. B 1/2 c steel cut oats with protein and peanut butter added L 4 oz meat and cheese with 2 t guacamole D 4 oz cheddar burger patty 1/2 c green beans S sm apple with 1 T peanut butter. Happy Birthday to NYMom222!!! I hope there is some good celebrating planned!
We are still in the muggies but no rain so far here. So AC or beach today (hmm...that's a concept). Our friends left a day early due to the wife's agoraphobia. Probably for the best because she makes us anxious when she is struggling with it. We are going to visit them at their lake home in mid August instead.
QOTD: I used to commute 1.5 to 2 hours each way. I did listen to a lot of audio books (mostly mysteries), but now on a trip that long I listen to modern country music with the news interspersed for the recaps, weather and traffic reports.
Accountability: Pretty good thank goodness after several days of company, dinners out and DS cooking.
2 Years, 4 months post-op (maintaining at goal for 20 months)
Always lots of coffee...
B: eggs, cottage cheese and Canadian bacon
L: tuna salad, pickles and cottage cheese

S: yogurt
