What's on your Thursday Menu, RNYers?
I think yea or nay to "new" foods probably has more to do with personal taste - unless he was from a really rural area and never had exposure to it (and isn't adventurous enough to be willing to try it - and like it). I do know of a few people who will only eat stuff like meat and potatoes and WILL NOT EVEN TRY anything they deem "different" - or if so, they'll pick at it and refuse to appreciate it. I am SO GLAD I am not married to someone like that!! My friend who LOVES things like Thai and Indian food was once married to a meat & potatoes guy *****fused to eat anything else. So she often had to make two dinners at night - and if she wanted to go out to a restaurant, she had to either go with friends or settle for a place that offered standard American fare. Ugh. I'm glad my husband is willing to try anything...(and he likes a lot of stuff, too)

My nephew grew up in Richmond VA, so not rural but I don't think his family was food adventurous. I exposed my son to all different types of food from a young age so he loves everything. I just assumed all kids his age were the same way. Very happy Rob likes and is up for anything, can't imagine being with someone picky, no fun!!

I can totally relate to your friend. I know we joke about how Grim only eats meat, but really--he only eats un-seasoned, un-marinated meat. If it has any visible seasoning he refuses it. If I want real food I either make it myself (and don't let him see how I have sullied his pans) or go out with friends. He does not share my love of tacos, sadly...
I swear, I have no idea how he ever got fat.

Good morning! Happy the weekend is right around the corner. Have an vision appt Saturday and then I'm going to hit some consignment shops and look at some pants. Time to drop down a size I think. Don't want to spend too much if I'm just "visiting" that size.

So interesting that so many people on here have Dr. appointments for various things on weekends! It's unheard of where I live.

Mornin' All!
I love tacos too, JB. I rarely ate them pre-surgery (I'd get those complete dinners at Mexican restaurants - e.g., one of those huge burritos that come with rice and beans - not to mention baskets and baskets of chips and salsa), but now my standard order is two tacos. The ones at authentic places are often made with those small 4.5" tortillas (which I occasionally eat - but not always) and just plain ole meat. Perfect for me in maintenance, and I love them!
just had my pre-surgery clearance physical. Everything looks good. I asked the physician about my occasional dizziness/nausea/blurry vision, and she agreed that it might be glucose-related. They did check my glucose when I went in for the work-up a month or so ago to see if they could figure out what was going on, but it was normal, so it may not have occurred to them that it might be glucose-related. She said I could get a glucose meter (although insurance won't cover it) so I can monitor my levels throughout the day to see if that's what's causing the problem - or I could just be sure to eat something every 2-3 hours - and stay away from simple carbs. That sounds like a plan to me...
the rest of the day includes lunch with a friend and a massage a 4:30 - ah! We might go to a movie tonight, but I'm kind of hoping not because DH always gets popcorn, and it's hard to keep my hands out of it. But....I will resist!!
QOTD: I have a Lenovo Yoga. It's my second one. The first one I loved but it died after about three years. So I got another. This one is slimmer and lighter weight than the first one, which at first I loved, but it's SO light and slim that it slipped out of my hands about two weeks after I bought it, and the screen cracked from hitting the ground. It still works, but the touch screen feature does not, which is one of the things I loved about it. Boo. I won't get another one for awhile, though, because this is only a year old - and it does still work as long as I use the keyboard. I've been thinking about getting one of those cheap-ish Android tablets, though - then I could always have it with me, and it might be easier to deal with when I'm in the hospital and back at home recuperating. I love iPads, but they're not cheap - that's why I'm thinking maybe Android.... (my cell phone is too small to use for long periods of time - fine for checking something quickly, but for long-term use, no...)
