200 down but not sure what my dream goal should be.

Well I am officially at least 200 lbs down now. I lost 70 over 3 months of the optifast shakes then since surgery on Halloween I knocked another 130+ off. I am very happy with the results but still want so much more. I originally thought a goal of being under 200 would be amazing. When I was serving in the Navy I was always 6'1" and about 185-190lbs and lifted weights all the time. But I was 18-21 back then and have since became disabled with bad legs. I guess the combination of being 37 and disabled has caused me to have shrunk to 5'11" - 6' depending on who is measuring. But the thing I am confused about is when I look up stats for my height it says normal weight should be between 135-170. I have not weighed 170 since freshman year football in high school.

For hitting this goal I am planning a reward NY trip to catch my favorite team, Yankees next month and my brain is already dreaming about trying all the food options in NY. I will stay on the right path and not really screw up food wise. I really want a good bowl of ramen but that probably would not be best so I'm trying to come up with something to enjoy.

Well I have so much more to say but I will put that in another post since i need to do some more walking this hour. Hope everyone is doing great and staying healthy. Thanks for always being there for me and everyone else in here.

Congratulations, quite an accomplishment!! Enjoy your trip to New York! I am born in New York but moved to CT when 23! I am an hour from NYC and love it.

Hard to know what to say for your goal. Totally personal decision.

Wow!! Congratulations on your success!! And nice in rewarding yourself with a trip!! I think that will be the hardest change for me because I always rewarded myself with food! Right now I have my eye on a pair of shoes when I hit 100 lbs gone vs, say, a celebratory pizza! Good luck on setting your next goal and continuing your success!

I would shoot for 200 and then see how you feel. If your legs are bad, they will probably feel better if you get as light as you can.

I know for me, I just have normal aging aches and pains but my legs feel so much better when I am lighter. It is the main reason I fight hard to keep my weight in a healthy range. I feel better and can be more active.

Congrats on your success so far. Keep up the good work!!

Yea that is what I have been thinking. The lighter I get the less pain i should have to deal with.

I agree with Laura on getting as light as you can. I was 52 when I had surgery and 58 now. I have severe rheumatoid arthritis so try to stay as low as I can since I can no longer take NSAIDS which are usually used to treat ra pain. My original goal was 165,then 145. I have been able to get down to 118to 123 at 5'6.5" and have maintained here for 5 years now by being diligent with measuring and weighing my food and staying on plan. I surely never expected these results when I was 273 pounds. Congratulations on your amazing loss so far too!

Taking weight off helps a lot with knee problems. My doc once told me that every extra pound of weight puts FOUR pounds of pressure on the knees. I was close to knee surgery preop. My knees and back still disable me at times but I've been able to avoid replacement surgery.

The great thing about going lower weight-wise is that you can always deliberately regain if you get to a point where you feel the need to.

congrats on your amazing success so far. Also, FYI, its normal to grow in height after extreme weight loss. I've grown half an inch (and I'm under 5 feet). Apparently it has something to do with the spine compressing from the excess weight. Check your height again, you may be surprised by some growth.

I am also heading to NYC soon, can't wait! and yes the food is amazing, but its also a walking city so you will get LOTS of activity in I'm sure.
