Mornin'!

Well Friday was a banner day. The Univ of Chicago called me and said my quote for my upcoming surgery had been revised due to price structure changes. I'd heard from the surgeon's nurse a couple of weeks ago that it would be a significant savings, so I was expecting maybe $2000 less (which I would have been overjoyed with). But no - it's half the original quote! I sat there just stunned! Of course, I called and left a message with the surgeon's office to see if I could get my second surgery at least tentatively scheduled - before they jack up the price again or before word gets out and they start booking a year in advance!! Hopefully they'll let me, even though they told me at the consult that their opinion (and therefore, estimate) re: the second surgery might need to be tweaked depending on the outcome of the first surgery. But they could still at least book the second one right? It probably won't be until Nov or Dec, so...??? I hope they'll let me!!! I am SO happy about all of this!!

This weekend I helped DH a bit with some pruning out in the yard (well, he did 90% of the work. I did help drag some brush out to the street and "supervised" while he tried to even some shrubs out ("take a little off there - no - a little over to the right...)), and I also worked on my organization's Web site for a few hours. And exercised. I've gone to the gym and/or yoga studio every morning since I retired last week. YAY!! My goal is to do it at least five days a week.

But not today - because this morning I am leaving for Rockford, Illinois. A former neighbor from when we lived in Ohio (who used to babysit for us back in the 60s) now lives about two hours from here. We connected on Facebook two or three years ago. She emailed me last week and said that now that I'm retired, would I be interested in getting together and spending a day with her? OF COURSE!! So that's what we're doing today. I can't wait!! I'm pretty sure the last time I saw her was around 1970. We have a lot of catching up to do!

QOTD: I don't remember specifically, but probably some political cartoon!

3 years out:

B: homemade Greek yogurt with strawberries

MS: coffee with half & half, Miralax/protein shake

L: two tacos

AS: probably a protein bar (I need to remember to take a couple with me!!)

D: ??

ex: I'm guessing we'll do a lot of walking around today

So glad that the PS is working out so well. Remind me what you are having done in August.

Interesting, I have never heard of doing the horizontal and vertical in different surgeries.

the first consult I had (Dr. Krochmal) said he'd do a FDL tummy tuck during the first surgery. The second one (Dr. Shifrin) looked and looked at my stomach and finally said I *might* be OK with a traditional tummy tuck, but if not, he could do a FDL cut later (I'd have done it in conjunction with the second surgery, though - doing a FDL on its own would have been too pricey - facility fees, anesthesia fees, etc - I didn't want three surgeries!!). The surgeon I'm going with, Dr. Zachary, said he thinks I'd probably be happier with a FDL, but he doesn't like to do the horizontal cut and the vertical cut at the same time, because the two cuts pull the skin in different directions, so sometimes the scar lines will open and you risk infection - so he prefers to do them separately. He said it would add about another 30 minutes to the second surgery, if I decide I want to go through with it (the FDL cut - not the second surgery - I want that no matter what!!). His rationale did make sense. I was a little miffed when Dr. Shifrin said he didn't think we should do it during the first surgery, but after hearing what Dr. Zachary said, it made more sense.
