Some upcoming goal questions
Hi folks! So I am just about 2 months out from surgery and am a couple days away at most from hitting my first milestone goal of 225lbs.
I am debating my next milestone goal and am unsure what it should be. The reward is just a new pair of shoes for the treadmill, so this is not end of the world stuff here. I want my next goal to be 195, because that would move my bmi out of obese to overweight. My husband thinks I should do the even number of 200, another 25lbs gone. But there is also a third option of picking something like 210 then having the next goal be 195... I could really use the new shoes as they would be orthotic...
Also my calorie burn goal...I currently have it set at 3000 on my Fitbit. Clearly this is too high for right now, but what is a more reasonable target? I was thinking 2500... with no exercise I burn about 2250 in a full day. Or I could leave it where it is and do what I have been doing which is ignore it.

I use Baritastic and I had it split my total into 10 equal goals -- it had the option to round to round numbers, and I think there was a third one too. I picked the 10 equal because then I'm not picking something unreasonable but also not picking something too easy! (I ignore all the calorie burned/net calories/etc and just focus on calories consumed, protein and carbs; not sure if that's wise or not)

I'd do 199- but onederland was a big deal for me.
i don't believe in delaying things we need- if you need new shoes and it will help you walk, run etc better- with less risks of injury I'd do it. Rewards IMO are frivolous-things we can live without but are letting ourselves have in exchange for an effort.
I don't have a Fitbit- but have a calorie burn goal on my Apple Watch. It 560- so your light years ahead of me.

For me the biggest deal was getting under 230lbs. That has always been my hangup weight when dieting on my own in the past. Onederland would definitely be nice :-D
My calorie burn goal is the total for the entire day. In a hard workout with my personal trainer the most I have ever burned has been 820, and I threw up after. On the treadmill I usually manage about 300-400 calories, normal training sessions average about 400.
I am a little frivolous :-D Okay a lot! But I think I am going to go ahead and get the new shoes without a goal. You are definitely right about preventing injury!
I think if you really need new shoes, you should probably just get them now because they will help motivate you to get to your next goal, whatever you make it.
if you want to reward yourself after that, maybe pick something else, like a trip to the salon, or a new outfit that's NOT from the thrift store LOL....or maybe a mini vacation or day trip to a place you've been wanting to go?
I think a wonderful goal is 199 so you can celebrate being in the 100's
just my 2 cents. the shoes seem like a necessity though.
I think the "calorie burn" goal is kind of arbitrary and probably not super accurate anyway. I'd say ignore it but pay attention to the other things, like how much time you spend doing cardio, timing yourself and trying to beat your times, distance completed, etc.

I think you are right! I am going to go ahead with the new shoes. And I love the idea of a salon trip for hitting the goal. Maybe I will start dying my hair again!
The calorie burn thing is definitely arbitrary. Which is why I try to specify that it is via my fitbit. Those devices are a little notorious for overestimating calorie burn anyway. I tend to use it as a baseline. For example if my fitbit has me around 2000 cals burned I tend not to sleep as well. On the other hand over 2750 and I sleep like a log!
I would shoot for onederland. It's such a huge milestone. I celebrated it at 199.8. As long as there was a 1 in the front I didn't care how close it was to 200.
I don't have a Fitbit so I can't help you with calorie burn target. But I can tell you my NUT told me that what I burn through exercise should not factor in/affect what I eat. So it's something we do for our health and keeping us sane.

Unless you are an elite athlete, you won't be burning 3000 calories. There's no harm in logging calories burned, whether it's 300 or 3000 as long as you NEVER eat those back.
Edited: so, this is your BMR + exercise? Now it seems more realistic, but if you are really interested in your BMR, I would suggest finding a place that will measure it properly, not just an arbitrary Fitbit number. I had mine done at the same time as a dexa body scan. It was very revealing. Perhaps have this as a "reward" once you get to your goal weight?
