Good morning, happy Friday eve!

QOTD can't really remember what is my favorite.

Yesterday cal 641, prot 81, carbs 27, fat 27. Today 1st tea with half and half, then protein pancake. L deviled egg. D tuna salad. Snacks deli chicken, 1/2 premier shake.

Having problem getting enough protein while staying under 600 cals. What is your best protein bang for your buck?

I've found fish and seafood to be excellent protein. I love shrimp, salmon, and tuna.

just out of curiosity, why do you need to be under 600 cals?
I think once you're transitioning to regular foods it is really hard to stay that low.
My goal is between 600-800 but I am usually around 700-750.

I don't know for sure but maybe my age and lower metabolism? I'm 60 and until recently, had not an exercise program. I have started walking and have worked up to 30 mins a day. I know that is not much compared to what some folks are doing, but I have hopes to continue to increase the walking time and once I have no lifting restrictions to start adding strength. So, thinking calories can increase as well?

I'm no expert and I know that sometimes the NUT's are not super helpful on how much/what foods to be eating post WLS because mine told me to stay under 1200 and start adding more grains/carbs...and I feel like that is way too high.
but I think that if you stay under 800 during your weight loss phase it should be sufficient regardless of your age/metabolism...again, I am not an expert but just sharing my thoughts...
I think if you keep trying to stay under 600 you may be setting yourself up for failure down the line...or a sudden urge to binge, or even just feeling disappointed in yourself for not meeting this fairly unrealistic goal which can lead to depression or other issues.
I'd say don't impose this strict of a calorie goal on yourself. obviously keep tracking and making sure you're getting enough protein and eating the right kinds of foods etc. and if you see the calories getting up there too much you can always reel it in.

I kept my intake to a max of 600 calories for the first 10-11 months after surgery, with the full approval and support of my NUT, and have experienced a wonderful, steady loss. I am now at 12.5 months out and have upped my intake by 25-30 calories per day since then.

While I understand why you wrote what you did, having had that type of bounce back reaction after drinking diet shakes exclusively for at least a year to lose 100+ pounds several times. But this is very different. I find myself satisfied and full with the caloric range I have, and it allows me to have four varied meals a day plus unlimited tea, etc. I very rarely experience feeling more than momentarily peckish, whereas in the shakes at around the 11 month to one year mark, my body was screaming to be cut lose from the regimen. This type of diet is very different - there is so much healthy variety available! I disagree that keeping to 600 calories or thereabouts during the weight loss phase sets one up for failure, providing one drinks sufficien****er and is diligent about supplementation and bloodwork. Everyone is slightly different. While 600 may be too low for you, it is not a mistake for all of us.

re: do you need to increase cals? I am 4'11, so I stayed closer to 600 for the first year, even with exercise. I'd say don't increase calories until you feel you need to!

As for protein--turkey and fish are definitely the best bang for your buck in terms of protein to calories ratio!

Thanks! I'm a little height challenged myself, but not a pixie like you, lol. I do stand tall to make it to 5'4". With all the suggestions, I'm going to get more fish into my plans.
