I had one put in prior to GBS 7yrs ago, after 5yrs had it removed and didn't use birth control for 6months to give my body a break. November 2016 I had a new one put in, started getting low mood, decreased libido, hairloss/thinning, noticing some weight gain, diagnosed in May with clinical depression, mood swings, irritability. Never thought much of it, thought it was just life but all this happened within 6months of getting mirena... since having my new iud in November 2016 I have gained a whopping 50lbs - regardless what I do I can't seem to rid of it... I maintained 130lbs lost for over 6yrs!

As much as we'd like to blame medication for weight gain, it's physically impossible to put weight on without taking in extra calories.

Are you tracking everything you eat, including nibbles and samples? What does an average day's menu look like for you?

Have you considered swapping the Mirena for a non-hormonal IUD to minimize side effects from your progestin device?
