I've been really lucky and only needed two infusions in 14 years, but each time was life changing!

Good luck, Deb, you know you'll feel 20 again after (but with an extra 10 years of life experience )

Sometimes I can hold my number with by mouth iron but I can't raise it with pills.

Good news is it held for 2 years.

I'll be so perky after the infusion.

I have to go again next week.

On one hand I'm so happy to have secured a hematologist who is looking out for my best interests. I experienced too many years of exhaustion and dismissal from regular doctors. On the other hand, I'm not liking the fact that I have to go every 6 months. I do wish I could take and absorb oral iron.

How low is too low? just had my 3 month bloodwork done and my ferritin was 7 last time checked was 15 before surgery in December 2016, I'm taking 2 Pre-natal vitamins with Iron but it definitely seems to be going in the wrong direction?

I had these same numbers and got it up by taking Carbonyl Iron.. I took 2 of them a day for about 6 months ...in January when I went back my Ferritin raised to 60. Told to drop back to one a day as Iron was a little high. I take 2 prenatal a day in addition to my Carbonyl Iron at night (separate of course). I was told I was not low enough for an IV when I was at 7 and 15, not sure how low it has to go??

you can get Carbonyl Iron in CVS. Comes complete with vitamin C. You do not want ferrous sulfate that does not absorb as well. (What I had been originally taking and struggling with low numbers).

Thanks, I figured I didn't need to worry about iron as I'm post menopausal, but I just remember years ago I had trouble when my hemoglobin got down to 85 (bad but didn't need a blood transfusion) but just checked that and it's in the normal range so maybe the 2 go hand in hand.

I am 51 still no menopause in sight but I think with our WLS we are in a different ball park regardless.

hopefully your doctor can answer.... lately I have been tired as well since I dropped back to one pill! I really should retest since it's been 4 months. The iron can be a *****! ;) I wonder how low you have to be to get a miraculous IV? Sound like a wonderful thing!
