So Discouraged

I just noticed this too. Strange.

The average loss seems to be 50% at the six month mark. From what the OP said, she is almost at 50% in 3 weeks. I'm not sure what she was expecting or why she deactivated

I actually totally understand. I had RNY May-3 starting at 260 and 5'5", I lost 12lb the first week, 6lb the second week, and 3lb the third week and I was really starting to worry! I had totally unrealistic expectations about how much I would lose and how quick, I was thinking I should be losing 5lb a week for the first 3 months at least! But it seems we (and probably others) need to adjust our expectations on how quickly we will lose. I hear 1-2 lb a week is to be expected after the first couple of weeks and don't forget you slow down a lot at about 2/3 weeks and will continue to lose slowly for several weeks until it picks up slightly.

I understand your frustration, but at your starting weight I think it's more realistic to lose 8-10 lb a month meaning you'll probably hit goal in 6-9 months (as another wonderful poster stated). Also important to remember is that while we may not lose as quickly as we want with this surgery, we are losing fast, and this tool will help with keeping the weight off, which is much more important.

I hope you can stay around, even if you just read and don't post, but people are here to support you and are very good about being understanding.

I'm surprised that being a nurse in that specific field she didn't have more knowledge about the process. My doctor told me flat out what I would lose and how long it would take and if I wanted to lose more than that it was up to me. I am also surprised that she had a surgery with such a low weight, it must have included a co-morbidity. I am 2 months out from VSG and I have lost 31 pounds. I am very happy with my status and I will continue to be happy with 1-2 pound losses! I don't respond much but this seemed odd to me too.
