What's on your (PHOTO) Friday Menu, RNYers?
on 6/1/18 3:21 am
Hello everyone! Thanks for all of your well wishes yesterday about the job. Of course when it rains it pours, so I have three more interviews for other positions on Monday. I haven't signed the contract letter, yet, so I am going to explore and see what my options are.
I hope everyone has a great weekend planned! We are about to jump in the car and drive from Boston to DC for my niece's HS graduation. Woot--congratulations to my baby girl!
As for a menu, I have no idea what is in store for this entire weekend, let alone today's drive...The trip is 8 hours each way and I am planning to pack a bag with all sorts of protein bars, meat sticks, nuts, cheese crisps, etc. I'd like to avoid a lot of fast food stops. But we do have a tradition of stopping at this one rest stop in Maryland where they have really good burgers. We learned about them from someone here who no longer posts. Thanks, NerdyGirl!
I have a few pics to post today. First, as you all probably know, my newest hobby is cookie decorating. I am still trying to figure out how to turn that into a full time gig that pays a 6 digit salary, lol. Here are the cookies I made last weekend for my BFF's cactus birthday party!
And for my next round of pics, I have some before and after shots. I have been feeling sort of down about my body image lately, so doing the side by side helps!
See you all back here on Monday!
Good morning JB and menu folks! Yeah it's Friday!
JB, I wish you safe travels. Wave at me in DC and have lots of fun!
Speaking of travel, we have decided to attend the wedding of a good friend in Santa Barbara in mid-October. I've only been in CA once and that was LA for a few hours. We are going for 4 1/2 days, 1 1/2 for travel and one for the wedding activities, but other than that we would like to enjoy the area. We will fly into SB rather than LAX and rent a car. For those of you who know the area, what should we see and where should we go? I know that there are several museums and the zoo. I would love to hike but that is difficult for my DW. Any and all suggestions appreciated!
I had my 2 week appointment with my PS yesterday and he is very happy with my progress. All of the incisions are healing nicely and I don't have any bruising (no lipo). In less exciting news, I am still having too much drainage from my left abdominal drain to have it removed yet. I go back again on Monday to see if it is possible. I'm really disappointed because it is uncomfortable but I'd rather have it in and the fluid draining out of my body than getting a seroma! I also have swelling in my lower abdomen and the PS said that it could be there for weeks or months...ugh! The upper ab looks good and the BL was a raving success! Overall I am really happy!

Hi Janet, so exciting you coming to CA. I'm sure Cara can give you lots of pointers about Santa Barbara better than me but my husband surfs down there a lot and here are his suggestions :
Old Mission Santa Barbra
Casa del Herrero
the Botanic Garden
The pier with the aquarium at the end (you could of course walk the beach too)
The bike path along the waterfront. You can rent bikes and it's mostly flat. It's gorgeous and goes for several miles. We have done that several times with the kids.
You can also get tours to go see the Channel Islands, it's like a natural reserve.
Whale watching
If I think of something else I'll come back to add.

Do you know anything about the zoo or Natural History Museum? My wife is really into science but not sure whether they are worth the limited time and $$.
Do you know where the bike rental is? That might be fun!
I'd really like to do the Botanical Garden.
Thanks!

Glad to hear you've got some good things lined up JB!
Tonight is Friday evening and our annual Steampunk Festival is in full swing. The boys went to Fire & Steam and there were lots of fun performances and light shows happening. And the costumes are fantastic.
I had surgery Tuesday so still dealing with a little discomfort and exhaustion. I know it gets better, and next year I can go get my Steampunk on!
no option but to stay on track! 1.8 litres water, protein water making up most of my protein numbers with a little very watery purée soup rounding it out. The regular protein shakes just won't go down right now, Ugh!
I know this will pass and I figure getting fluid in is probably most important at this point!
Have fun,
mathea

S: 1/2 pear and 1-ounce cheese
L: shredded lettuce, 3-ounce chicken, 9 greek olives
