Have you been asked this? "Do you even need the surgery?"
Looking back, things said were nothing but things said. I heard, "all you will be doing is trading one set of problems for a different set of problems." I replied, "...but at least I'll be doing it thinner." Other comments made that stick out are, "wait til the weight comes back, that's really fun," "too bad you can't do it the old-fashioned way," "WLS cost taxpayers a lot of money instead of just teaching people how to push themselves away from the table," and lastly my very favorite, "you are going to get really old-looking." Things said, good or bad, have all helped me forge ahead in the quest to make the last ditch effort of WLS worth it and, yes, with some weight back on but not all of it and, yes, older-looking but not really old-looking. Forge ahead, HorseGirl76.
Yep! I was able to get to a goal weight at least twice in my life previously and lost 1/3 of my excess during my 6 month pre-op period. I knew that even though I was good at dieting, I had NEVER stayed at goal for more than an instant and would regain more than previously. I explained this as the reason I needed an additional tool (and still have to explain it periodically).
ETA: I don't have this conversation with everyone, just close family members and friends. It definitely is your business what you do (and who you share with).
