How to break a weight loss stall after RNY

My husband had RNY surgery last year and has done well, but hasn't reached his goal of 120 lbs. because he stalled 3 months ago. Has about 30 lbs. to go. He is watching his carbs. Suggestions to jump start his weight loss again? Thanks in advance!

He is eating too much. Tell him to weigh/measure all of his portions and track very bite.

agree with your other poster. He needs to cut calories back to 800-900, no carbs at all, including sweet potato, oatmeal, pasta, fruit.

Meat dense protein, beef, pork, chicken, turkey, fish. Cheese and eggs. Very minimal low carb vegetables.

drink 64+ oz of sf liquid a day. Weigh and measure everything.

no alcohol

Yep, it's the calories if he has been stalled this long; it doesn't matter how much one watches their carbs, fats or whatever the diet of the day calls for if the calories are out of line.

It is easy to fall short of goal if no****ching things, as our caloric demands decline as our weight drops - it takes fewer calories to drag around 200 lb all day long than 300 lb, etc. Also, after 6 -12 months we can naturally eat more in a sitting, and diet fatique can set in when one gets tired of doing whatever diet was imposed.

Something else to keep in mind, whether his program emphasized this or not, is that the extra boost one gets from the caloric malabsorption of the RNY dissipates after a year or two, so this gets harder after that (though still possible.)

If he is looking to mix things up some, this doc's approach has some merit -

It is quite different than the typical bariatric diet approach or the popular online diets, but it is workable for some. I don't buy into everything he says (I don't buy into everything anyone says - if anyone had the "total" answer there would be no obesity problem!) but I have evolved into a more veg heavy diet than most and it works well for my weight control.
