I ate 800 cal a day until about 1/5 years out. when my Dr told me to eat 1200- and a promptly gained weight. also raw veg bothered me and were off limits for 6 months- same with steak.

i would have the scope or upper gi and make sure there is no issue.

It is important to note that a sudden increase in calories WILL cause weight gain immediately, no matter if it's still enough to lose on, or not. It does even out, but I've read it can take 3-4 weeks for our bodies to readjust. Jumping to 1200 for us isn't a good idea though, from what I've seen a lot of us don't have the metabolisms of a teenager :(

I'm relatively new like you but that 1000-1200 calories seems so excessive (and typing that thinking of my pre-program calorie days kind of makes me laugh, not in a good way). I get a little panicky right now if my calorie count hits 700.

I'd get it checked out and only be really concerned if part of the issue is you're not getting enough protein. As I sit here eating Tuna Salad and raw veggies for lunch I've been lucky/unlucky enough to be able to eat most anything and I'm not yet 3 months out, makes it a lot harder to keep the calories down although at this point I'm not hungry at all and still need to remember to eat. Have you tried ground beef with sauce or chicken baked in tomato or bbq sauce? this might make it moister and easier to digest, also keep to only an ounce or so when trying something and try it alone so you know for sure what didn't work.

Looks like you doing well on the weight loss and that's kind of what this is all about.

I had a hard time with dense protein at 3 months also. I could barely eat an ounce, never mind 2 without getting sick. Stick to what you know you can tolerate and really moist meats. Maybe smaller portions/more often and just keep trying. It gets better the further out you are.

It's easy to get turned around. On the one hand, all your medical professionals are telling you one thing, and on the other you have a group of very successful vets who do the opposite. You just think about it some. Has your surgeon been SMO all his life and then had surgery? Probably not. Mine is a very handsome, very fit doctor (did I mention handsome?). I love him to pieces, but he's in perfect shape honestly. Surgeons have their guidelines, and they see us as people with normal metabolisms who should be able to lose easily at well over 1,000 calories. Some of us can, but not many that I've met so far. Don't worry, you're not going to starve yourself :) take care of your body and read through some of the advice given by the vets here, they've lived it a long time.

I would be a giant fatty again on that amount of calories! I also cannot eat chicken without somehow getting it stuck unless it is swimming in mayo or something. That pretty much defeats the purpose for me. I have no problem with steak which I love and cut it into miniature pieces.

I think you are doing amazing and your weight looks great! If you start disappearing you could add some calories in. I think for how far out you are the amount of food you are eating is pretty normal. Also it takes time to be able to eat certain foods again. Just chew them until they are mush. Yum - right??
