Surgery Postponed

This kind of wait is SUPER common. Most people in the US seem to wait between six months and a year between their first consultation and their actual surgery date.
The insurance company needs to have some assurance that you are healthy enough for surgery, and that there's a chance that you will be successful. It's nothing personal.

VSG 2013, RNY conversion 2019 due to GERD. Trendweight here!
I'm surprised this didn't come up before, I was already using a CPAP machine before my referral especially as I had a tendency to stop breathing when sleeping, my brain would forget. The sleep apnea study was early in the process, did you have a sleep study and not get a machine?

Hi Michelle,
this is where a big part of my frustration was from. I did pre admit testing w an internist at the surgeon's office 3 weeks before surgery and he decides we should probably check for sleep apnea I've done everything I've needed to do and was in a good place mentally Just a setback I wasn't prepared for and another good reason to lose the weight!

The must have just missed it early on in the process and the Internist was the one who caught it, Sleep Apnea is really common among the OB & MO so normally they check for it even it you don't think you have it.

Hi Kelly,
Just to hopefully make you feel a bit better, my DH had a heck of a time getting cleared for his surgery due to not getting the Cpap machine in a timely manner too...the sleep clinic spent over a month avoiding his calls and we had to get the surgeons office involved for them to call him back to schedule an appointment. long story short, he ended up having to repeat his home study twice and eventually at the last minute they put in the order for the Cpap, literally 1 week before his surgery. they informed him that as long as he had the machine and knew how to use it prior to the surgery, he would be cleared.
he got the machine the wednesday before his monday surgery date.
I think as long as you are able to obtain the Cpap machine and start using it, the surgery should not need to be delayed by much!
it all depends on how much data they want to have on your cpap usage before they will clear you.
