hi. My name is Kelly. I'm new to the site and was originally looking for supplement/diet ideas. Now I really do need support - the emotional kind. My surgery RNY scheduled for May 21 has been postponed because I need a Cpap for moderate sleep apnea before the surgery. I've come so far - jumped through so many hoops and got myself mentally prepared for the liquid diet - only to have it all change. Has this happened to anyone else? Why did I have 4 other abdominal surgeries and recover just fine w no cpap??!!! Rrrrr

That sounds super frustrating! I'm sorry you're having a hiccup. But once you have the surgery, this will hardly register as anything but a minor inconvenience :)

That sucks.

My coordinator called me to postpone. I told her my company was restructuring and I was fearful I'd lose my job/insurance which was sorta true but a bit of an exaggeration.

I was in the OR a week later. I sent a really nice gift basket afterwards.

Every surgeon is different. Have you considered that those other surgeries were unnecessarily risky and that surgeon wasn't as concerned about your recovery. However, this one is and it is likely best for you. As a cpap patient, I'm very thankful for all the support I've received over the years from my sleep specialists. I've lived a much healthier life because of it. Even at 500 pounds. My doctors made me do things I ddn't want to get surgery and I'm so much better now because of it. Consider you might just have a much better care team now. Good luck

I am so sorry that this happened to you. Do you know yet how long the surgery will be postponed? As hard as it to process right now, I am sure your surgeon has your safety front and center in his plan.

If they say you need a CPAP, it's super important that you get one.

I was on a CPAP prior to surgery and was told to bring my machine to the OR. The doctors forgot to hook it up, and the minute they turned on the anesthesia, I stopped breathing. It took them nearly an hour to get me breathing and stable again, and another hour or more to wake me up.

It may be disappointing, but this may save your life.

This probably does not make you feel any better but my consult for surgery was Jan 19. It is May 10th and it has not been approved by my insurance so I don't a surgery date yet and the delay has nothing to do with me or any medical condition! I still have to wait on the insurance, do preop testing/appointment, see the nutritionist and then wait to get on the surgery schedule. I'm not going to go on a rant about how ridiculous this is!
