TMI Warning

I'm not feeling well at all. I have appointment next Friday with my IM doc for a yearly physical. Liver enzymes still high. No pain in tummy, but BMs not a normal color. Much lighter no matter what I eat. Not normal in consistency. Plus, I'm tired. Weight remains kind of stable +/- 2 pounds. Eyes not yellow. I've been a klutz lately and have a few bruises. I broke my fourth toe on left foot a week ago last Monday. I'm not eating anything off plan, no cheating at all. I'm in a new job since April 2, and stress is gone, I feel like a human being again in this new job.

I just wish I had a sooner appointment. Going to get blood tests this week.

Lighter stools can be indicative of a high fat diet. Do you still have your gallbladder?

Yes I have my GB. But, I'm not eating high fat foods.

So gallbladder disease and cholecystectomies is not uncommon for RNY patients. You don't seem to have the typical telltale tenderness/pain but the gallbladder and the liver are connected and a cruddy gallbladder could raise liver enzyme levels.

I'd guess they'd have to do an ultrasound to see if it's inflamed or if you have stones.

cant really speak for the stool only to say that my own really improved after my cholecystectomy.

Obviously this is just one possibility but I think it's worth asking a doctor about.

Did you have NASH/NAFLD before WLS? Did they do a liver biopsy during your surgery?

If your stools are light tan, clay to yellow colored, float, and look like mal-absorbed food -- and you have exhaustion -- I would insist on a sonogram of your abdomen with special attention to your liver. Blood tests aren't enough.

Another thing to look out for -- is your urine darker colored and strong?

No liver issues before. Urine only dark if dehydrated. But, sometimes dark. I'll tell doctor Friday.

elevated liver enzymes aren't uncommon after WLS. Rapid weight loss is really hard on the liver. Mine finally normalized very recently - at almost 3 years out.

light-colored stools can also indicate malabsorption. They seem to be pretty common the first couple of months after surgery (based on threads I've read) - but where you are, no. I'm glad you're getting it checked out.

Blood test taken today and results are in. Looking much better.

A1C is now 5.

AST is now 63

ALT is now 90. Although AST and ALT are high, they've come down. I'm pleased.

BUN is now normal

All Lipid panels are normal.

Thyroid is normal.

Doctor appt this Friday.
