If you feel that you've "mutilated" your body, I suggest you get some professional help to deal with the emotional side of surgery.

I guess in comparison to my lap band which was so much less invasive I kind of feel it's like I mutilated my stomach and I have to constantly do certain things for the rest of my life. And I guess the mutilation feeling comes in because I don't feel I'm losing enough weight. If I thought I was losing weight I wouldn't care how much I mutilated myself Because I was killing myself with food the other way

Hi,
It could be acid reflux. Try taking some Ranitidine or acid reducer. I find when I feel really really hungry, its usually something to do with acid or not drinking enough water.

200 lbs lost and 17 pounds below goal !
Thanks for your support. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who's been hungry after I gastric bypass. Actually I find the thing that I got going for me is that I am able to tolerate hunger. Before my surgery I could never have weathered any hunger pains. But now I know I can't eat if I wanna lose weight and I just put it off I don't know how I'm doing it but thank God I am
CRS,
I agree with Sparklekitty, 11 ounce is far too much@ 5 weeks. It was many months before I had a pouch size of 3 ounces. Mine is currently 6 ounces. You are right, restriction is the issue... but not only surgical restriction. ..but diet restriction. I would start by cutting all meal sizes in half ....If needed add in a protein only snack of 2 ounces as needed to get proteins in at Your prescribed level.
I see two things I would try, from what you have said .These I curretly use from time to time, as I see my own changes. Just FYI, I had a very early weight loss procedure and it was my only one, by one of the pioneers of gastric bypass surgery in Memphis...not saying it is better OR worse than your procedure but was different . Mine was more than 20+ years ago. I am within 20 lbs of my goal, and have been there for much of the past 20 years..life throws us curve balls and we have to catch those and return them. This and other diet issues still have to be dealt wih routinely.
The main thing for you to know is you are not alone. You have got the tool required to help you get to YOUR goal.
Since every BODY reacts differently you may have to try different things within the realm of diet and portion control to get yourself on the track YOU wish to be on. All those here can give you ideas, and perspectives, but you have to have the fortitude to stay the course, and it sounds like you have that in one moment.
If you are having hunger and it is awakening you. The main issue is too many carbs. It may take 2 or three days to keep blood sugars from crashing (if it is a blood sugar crash,)..as it was mine, or to control the acid, if It is acid issue.
You should consider the surgery you had to be a wonderful tool, like any tool it can be abused. Embrace the use of your newest weapon on the fight you have to get and maintain good health.
Carbs,(according to Merick nursing manual) stimulate insulin production and it stimulates enzymes for protein digestion.Carbs in the veggies you have are usually enough for this process... I advocate low carbs, because it works for me. to jumpstart another weight loss, I dip mine to 20-30 range for several days.. then slowly raise them to around 50, after I have gotten a handle on any stomach, hunger, acid , gastritis problems-which I have reoccuring. My R'd protein is 90 Grams.
This does mean I need to take a vitamin C, and it also means I cut ALL FRUIT(juices and fruit) from my diet. I use a B-complex liquid sublingual for my B's, meaning I hold 2 cc of liquid under my tongue for a MINIMUM of 90 seconds then swallow. My nutritionist recommended this for carb cravings, it does take it from 2-3 days to kick in. then I reduce it to one cc , daily.
If hunger is awakening you in the night, (ditto it may be acid). It COULD also be a low blood sugar episode.
I have had this occur recently. I did a diet assessment and ended up adding 2-3 ounces of protein about 90 min. before bedtime, with 2 plain saltine crackers. This stopped my problem. About 30 min before bedtime I make sure my water is topped off and I awaken in the night and drin****d filtered water. ( usually 22 ounces thru the night.) I drink NO colas,.(.not even diet they increase my hunger.). a glass of unsweet tea, or cup of herbal tea once or twice a week but rest is water. I don't use it,but IF you crave a flavoring for water, try a slice of orange or squeeze lemon in it.
Hope these give you some things to consider and you are able to use for your new journey into health.
Lap band revision to RNY on 4/9/18.........
Yes!! I was starving by the middle of my second week, although I think some that was due to dehydration. Now, that I'm on soft/semi-solids, I rarely feel that hungry anymore. I did ask my surgeon about feeling so hungry so soon, and not feeling much restriction. He thought that it was my body's way of letting me know it needs food, after being on liquids for weeks.
I had been frustrated with lack of restriction, but was reminded by someone's response in this thread that it feels very different than it did with the lap band - which is what i was comparing it to. I'm learning that its more about feeling satisfied when finished eating, and satiated between meals. I make sure to eat no more than 3-5 oz at a time, depending on what I'm eating.
hi. I'm wondering if anyone else has to struggle so hard to lose a lb. I read here that a lot of people lose a lot of weight, and get to goal weight very quickly. Many people do this within 6-8 months, some even 5 months.
For me every lb is a battle. I don't believe I have enough restriction or either my soma is too large or both. I'm 3 months post op and not satisfied with the weight loss. My weight goes up and down. I can't believe I can gain weight back on 750 calories but I do. And it resembles my weight struggles pre-op.
Im 56 years old, this is a revision from lapband, and I'm intentionally eating less to get some weight off. I'm nervous not getting enough protein in and for my health.
If if you can relate, confirm or dispel my concerns, beliefs or give support, Id appreciate it. Thanks so much.
What does your daily menu look like? Are you measuring, weighing, tracking everything you eat? How is your water intake? How much have you lost?
I'm a band to bypass revision and I was very strict the first 6 months tracking everything and staying at 600-700 calories I lost almost 70lbs.
I made sure all I ate was protein like eggs, chicken thighs, fish, yogurt, cottage cheese, I did have a protein shake if I wasn't meeting my protein goals, but I used unsweetened almond milk that was only 30calories and low carb isopure protein powder that gave me 25grams of protein in one scoop.
It is also really important to make sure you are drinking plenty of water. I get in 100oz or more a day.
Hi. I've been reading and paying attention to everyone's posts. For the most part I'm tracking daily. I'm weighing and measuring my food and getting in my liquids. Usually get in 70-90gr protein a day and go from 500-800 calories a day. Not having any grains this past month. Most of my proteins are dense. It will be 3 months tomorrow and I've lost 51 lbs. I really appreciate your support. I like your idea to use the unsweetened almond milk to bring down my calories.
What I want to know from you guys is does anyone know how to make tuna fish or egg salad taste good without using mayonnaise. I find that I have to use mayonnaise too much and it's taking too much of my calories, even though I'm using the canola oil variety And I need my food to be moist maybe I got that from my lapband days. It's funny, I just saw on TV tonight that Hellmann's has an avocado and a sunflower oil mayonnaise that just came out. I'm gonna have to check it out and see if it's less calories and fat
Thanks so much
