How long was it from your first appointment with your surgeon until your actual surgery date? My first appointment is next Tuesday. I'm guesstimating 3-6 months??? Mine will be a revision, but since I'm 3 years post band removal, insurance requires me to do all the pre-requisites like a first timer, which requires a 3 month supervised diet. Even though I've been on weigh****chers, that doesn't count. :-(
It took me a year. My insurance required a 6 month physician supervised diet- no amount of weight loss specified. But I ran into problems with my surgeon not being Center of Excellence certified. I submitted for approval after doing all the other appointments and was denied, I tried to go to another surgeon ran into other issues and finally decided to self-finance my surgery. Fortunately my surgeon worked out a deal so my insurance covered it.

I had to switch insurance policies (my former one didn't cover WLS), and since the new one required a six-month supervised diet sometime within the last two years, I just did it while waiting for the new insurance to take effect. So I had that all behind me when I first met with the surgeon and started the program.
I could have had the surgery about three months after my first meeting with the surgeon (we had to go through a bunch of classes and a sleep study and a stress test beforehand, thus, the three months), but since I work in an academic setting, I had to wait until summer, so six months.

I had my first visit in march and surgery Nov 22nd. I had to have 6 months supervised diet, psych eval, lots of hoops to jump through but so worth it! Good luck on your journey.
It will mostly depend on your insurance, but if you're self-pay you may not have as long of a wait. My insurance required a 6 month evaluation (medically supervised diet plan), and my surgeon had his own requirements for clearances. Had I not gone through insurance, it would have been based on how quickly I could get those clearance appointments cleared.
I had my consultation in August, but had already had my first monthly weigh-in appointment with a nutritionist in July that counted toward the 6 month eval. My last evaluation was in December, but due to a conflict (my husband had to have a hernia repair and I didn't want us both recovering at the same time), my surgery wasn't until February. So for me, the process was closer to 7-8 months. I spent that time here, reading and absorbing everything I could about RNY to prepare :)

I also had to do a 3-month supervised diet for my insurance. I went to my first appointment at the end of August, and had surgery on December 10.
