If your multivitamin contains iron it will reduce absorption of calcium. L So you may want to take your calcium separately or buy a multi that doesn't contain iron (e.g. multivitamins marketed to women over 50 yrs).

Thanks. I think I will just space the Calcium out from the prenatal rather then change to a regular multi vitamin. My nails and hair have remained very good since starting prenatal vitamins a few months before surgery (so for over 10 years). Surgery was May 20, 2008. I don't want to jinx a good thing. I give the prenatal vitamins the credit for that. Calcium level is good from my labs but I think I will start spacing out since I have not had a dexa scan which is the true test. I am used to taking vitamins all day long, I will find another place to separate. :) thanks!

Fyi-: calcium have priority over iron. So iron from prenatal will not be absorb rather than calciyc.

Fyi-: may I repeat myself- if things are working for you- don't change them. "If it ain't broken, don't fix it".

If I were you- i would check dexa, and I would not change a thing, if things are great as far as you are.

Thanks great advice... dexa will be the complete story teller. Thanks for the clarification on who trumps who (Calcium or Iron) that explains it since I also take Carbonyl iron at night as well, why the iron/ferritin is still good.

Just want to say you are very smart to ask and listen to what Hala posts. She has helped me in more ways than one,

She truly wants to help.

Thanks! Yes I agree she is a wealth of knowledge and I trust her. My WLS Physician Asst and office (like many) don't seem to know much at times and it is great to gain information here that is really health and life saving.

So many questions the vets can answer. It makes life so much easier asking. Instead of doing what we want.

My life has gotten better after surgery. But a lot of doctors office pretty much do the surgery and then push us right out of the nest.
