No way would I change my life the way that is necessary to lose 40 pounds. PLEASE just have a lifestyle change. There really is no miracle surgery

"Just a lifestyle change" won't resolve her GERD and the weight loss she's currently experienced may not last, let alone trying to lose and maintain 40 more pounds. As others have shared, the stats are that only 5% of dieters maintain weight loss long term.

a lot of people think this very way about having weight loss surgery at all.

I guess you are glad these people weren't making your medical decisions and I am sure the OP is glad YOU aren't making her medical decisions for her.

Are you approx. 5' 5" tall? If so, the normal BMI range is 112-150 lbs, so you'd need to lose at least 44 pounds to be at the very top of the normal range, so additional weight loss could be achievable depending on what you eat and your body size preference post-WLS.

I don't agree with posters that think your interest in revision WLS is unnecessary. With your failed lap band experience, I think a revision to MGB or RNY would really help your GERD (and possibly PCOS), and help you finally reach & maintain your goal weight.

Most of us on OH are only familiar with self-pay options in North America (Canada, Mexico, & USA), so if anyone knows of good revision surgeons in Europe, please speak up.

Thanks, that's correct I'm 5'5

And I want to be 70kg / 155 pounds no less than that. I'm 194 at the moment. My band was self pay but the removal was funded as it was a clear emergency. My belly button area was red and I had antibiotics to treat it but wasn't working and then the belly started to leak. The leakage has left me with permanent black scarring. I was rushed into theatre with suspected erosion of my band hence consented. Luckily it was a port infection so the band was actually fine but removed

I wonder about the effects of the removal of the band on my esophgus. And what I can do to help the GERD burning pain?

I I am keen to get my sliding hiatus hernia fixed to see if that will help the GERD. For a little extra money I can get the MGB or RNY and it will be a tool for life. I'm willing to work with the tool as I did the band. I didn't default causing erosion. The port infection was outside of my control.

rReally interested to hear about your MGB MarinaGirl..

If you had RNY at 194 lbs I truly doubt you'd be able to stop weight loss at 155. Most patients lose 25-30 lbs in the first month alone. You'd be "at goal" and barely able to eat solid food.

Not necessarily true. Lightweights often lose slower and/or less weight than heavier patients; therefore, your assumption that the OP will lose 25-30 lbs the first month post-op is not correct.

Thanks MarinaGirl

I've PM'd you as I notice you've had the MGB and would love to hear about your weight loss so far

Now you're just being obtuse. I didn't lose 25-30 pounds in the first month, and I weighed almost double 194 pounds.

Every last one of us are experts in stopping weight loss. She will have no problem stopping at 155.

Thanks for the reassurance that I'll have no problem stopping at 155 pounds. It has been something I've been concerned about whether or not the weight loss will stop when I need it to as with the band this was easy to control
