Please help everyone
I had my band removed 6 months ago due to a port infection. My surgeon said he wouldn't do revision surgery. I've tried for 6 months to diet and my surgeon has discharged me saying I don't qualify for weight loss surgery
current weight 194 pounds
weight with band 163 pounds
BMI 32.4
desired Weight 154 pounds
i have a sliding hiatus hernia and GERD
PCOs and fibromyalgia
i am wondering about a mini bypass, RNY or even another band! I am planning to pay privately as I am so desperate
I'm sorry but I'm slightly confused as to what you would like help with. Would you mind clarifying please?

I'd like bariatric surgery as I was maintaining weight when I had the band and due to a port infection it's now removed
I'd like a band or mini bypass or RNY
I'm based in Europe and willing to pay privately. The clinic I used last time didn't worry about the BMI and the numbers and us the same again. I just need to know which one to consider
Ok, I see.
Well now days the band has really fallen out of favor (for several reasons). How many surgeons in your area have you talked to? Let them know you are paying out of pocket, because as Scott said with insurance you have to have a BMI of 35 with comorbibities or a BMI of 40 without. I don't know how willing they would be to preform the surgery on someone of your size, but if no one is, maybe reconsider? If you are really thinking you cannot do this without surgery, Mexico is an option that a lot of out of pocket people consider. They might be more willing to preform the surgery, just make sure you do your research.
Hope it helps and good luck!

the band gave you the issues you currently have including the GERD and you'd consider doing it again?
Don't light your money on fire by getting a surgery that damaged your health and is going to result in it worsening and you will have it removed again. Bands should be banned. I honestly can't believe there are doctors still doing them.
Your best option is RNY.

In all likelyhood you have adhesions that still need to be dealt with. You definitely need to find a surgeon who is very experienced with revisions. Hopefully they can clean it up and you can eventually get the revision you need.
Best of luck.

Your BMI is too low. Minimum is 35 and that's with co-morbidities that you haven't listed. Without those serious health issues the minimum BMI is 40. So you'd likely have to gain around 50 pounds.
gaining 50 lbs so you can have surgery in order to lose 100lbs doesn't sounded like a good idea. Also RNY patients need to significantly alter their behavior in terms of nutrition. The restriction caused by surgery is only temporary.
id suggest trying to lose that 50 on your own. Obviously easier said than done but not within the realm of the impossible. If you can afford to pay for surgery you should be able to afford a personal trainer. Good luck!
hers is a revision because of complications (and obviously has gained weight from band removal). Sleevers get revised to RNY every single day at normal weights because of complications. Her doctor should have done a revision when the band was removed. She is no less entitled to a revision than someone who can't have a sleeve anymore because of complications.
I think it is ridiculous that people are made to regain all their weight to get a revision from a band. There is no bariatric surgery that causes more complications than that one.
