Mornin' All!
I was in Chicago this past weekend (2nd PS consult was there on Friday afternoon). Heading back there this coming weekend to meet up with some cousins - our little genealogy group (we all "met" through DNA testing. My father knew them, but I never even knew they existed until after the test. We get together every few months to work on family history or go to places where our ancestors once lived, cemeteries where they're buried, etc. It's a lot of fun!)
QOTD: DH and I used to travel a couple of times a year - usually including one international trip - but we haven't for a long time because of having one terminally ill pet after another - and then, there was my father the last two years. We could start doing it again, but we haven't. Too many excuses. "What will we do with the cats?" (well, we've had a houseful of cats for 20 years - so why is this suddenly a problem?). "Too busy at work" (you mean - we weren't before?). "Someone might break into our house again" (so...we hire a housesitter). I don't know what the issue is. Maybe we've just become homebodies. Good thing we've already done a lot of traveling, though. Although I would like to go to Scotland and Romania before I kick the bucket. And one of my aforementioned second cousins in Chicago wants me to go to Sweden with her sometime to visit some of our relatives there (she knows them - and my father did, too). So I'll probably go to those places at least...
accountability has been good the last few days. Down 3 lbs. I'd like to get down a couple more before I feel "safe" again.
2 years 10 months out:
B: homemade Greek yogurt with berry spread (no added sugar)
MS: coffee with half & half, Miralax/protein shake
L: fish taco
AS: L&F yogurt or a couple of cheese sticks
D: pork chop and Asian-style slaw
probably another L&F yogurt later
ex: I'll see what classes they're having at the yoga studio - I haven't been in a few days - missing it.
Nice job dropping the weight. I want to drop 2 or so pounds to get more comfortably in my weight zone. I need to follow your lead!

to be honest, most of it was just a return to the routine. We've been out-of-town or hosting relatives a lot the last three weeks or so - lots of restaurant eating. You never know exactly how many calories - or how much sodium - you're consuming - and you (or at least I) tend to eat more than I would if I were home. The next couple of pounds will definitely be more of a challenge...
I'm so fascinated by these DNA genealogy tests available through the mail now...I was looking into it this weekend and I think I might order the one through ancestry.com since it is on sale right now for $59. I'm still trying to decide if it's worth spending the money for right now because I know there are lots of other things I could use that money for, but I have been wanting to do it for years! how cool to be able to get together to research your ancestors!

both AncestryDNA and Family Tree DNA are having great sales right now - I've never seen prices this low. So if you're going to do it, now might be the time.. Although I know what you mean about the money....
keep in mind the ethnic mixes they give you are at best ballpark. They base it on how you compare to other people who have taken the test. I show way more Scandinavian ancestry on the tests than I do on paper, but then, tons of Scandinavians take those tests (Germans, too), which kind of skews it. One set of my great grandparents were born in Romania, but I show very little eastern European ancestry on those tests (I've taken both AncestryDNA and Family Tree DNA). On paper, my eastern European heritage is much higher.
the list of DNA matches they give you, though, should be pretty accurate, since they base that list on how much DNA you share with the people on the list. I've emailed a few of my closer relatives (mostly 2nd and 3rd cousins). Some respond, some don't. I think some people just take the tests to see their ethnic mixes, but some are really interested in family history, so those folks DO respond. I've met several 2nd and 3rd cousins that way. It's been really fun, actually...

My half sister and I took our together so it was really cool to see where our overlap and differences were. She had a lot more southern european and I had a lot more eastern european -- and we've decided this is why she tans and I burn, lol.
