What's on your menu today (Thursday) RNYers?
Good morning menu folks!
Daisy, I'm sorry that you have been suffering so much. I get seasonal sinus headaches but they are usually helped by bendryl and rest.
Have any of you done an ancestry DNA test? I decided that I want to do one and just sent for the kit. I got a trial membership and have found some interesting things.
This afternoon I go for a followup Dexa scan. I had my last one in October when I first hit goal. My total body fat was 16.7, and my doctors were very concerned that it was too low. I have been eating more full fat cheese and nuts since then, so I am curious about what it is now.
This will be a very busy day today at work, so will be glad when it is over. Not sure whether I will have time for a long lunch walk even though it is supposed to be walk and mostly sunny.
Menu:
Breakfast: chicken breast
Snack: Cappuccino protein shake, apple, almonds
Lunch: chicken salad, baby carrots
Dinner: beef broccoli, blueberries
Exercise: I'd like to take a long walk either at lunch or after work.

My weight is within 3 pounds of what it was then, up and down. I have just been eating more fats to try to raise my body fat to a more healthy level. I'll post the results tomorrow.

I really want to do one of those DNA/ancestry tests, I am fascinated by them but haven't wanted to shell out the $$ for it. My Grandmother on my Dad's side was really into ancestry.com and had all of the info she got from it printed out and made us all a little binder the year before she passed away. She was mostly Danish/Dutch. There was a lot of info but nothing super fascinating to me...I guess I am kind of more interested in the rest of my OWN heritage, and hers was only 1/4 of it. My Grandfather was from Lebanon and and my mom's parents were Irish.

Did you find out anything Earth shattering? I've always been told that I was mostly German and Cherokee, but in looking around in the Ancestry database, I see no Native American and almost all English. I did find out that I have direct ancestors who came over on the Mayflower and that was cool.

Nothing too earth-shattering. I knew I was more than half Danish and it confirmed that. Saralisa's was a little more interesting because all I knew about her dad before was that he had German ancestors so it was nice to know more about her heritage. Blossom was a surprise because I thought she had Golden Retriever in her and it turns out she is a mix of mostly Saint Bernard, Pomeranian, ****er Spaniel, American Staffordshire Terrier and some mutt, with the majority being Saint Bernard. LOL!
from what I've read, the ethnic mixes they give you are ballpark at best. They base it on other people who have taken the test, so it may be heavily skewed one way or another. On Family Tree DNA, I at first came out much more Swedish than I am on paper, but then I read that tons of Scandinavians take Family Tree DNA - it's the most common DNA test there, so that may have skewed my results. They do re-calibrate it every few months (all the tests do, I think), so now it's a bit closer to what I have on paper - but not exactly.
the thing that *is* pretty accurate is the list of your DNA matches, because that's based on the length of DNA segments you share with them. I've found those the most interesting. I've contacted several people who are somewhat close cousins (2nd and 3rd). Some people write back, some don't, but I've had a lot of fun getting to know some of these people and figuring out how we're connected!
