What sort of food are you trying to eat? Could you be taking too large of bites or eating too fast? My bites are about the size of a pencil eraser, and I chew that to mush. How are you doing with liquids and protein shakes?

Contact your surgical team--strictures would make it hard to get food down, and they can check to see if that might be an issue.

Sometimes things that are too dry can be troublesome. It can take some time to work up to chicken and beef. Some folks do well with tuna from pouches or a can with a bit of mayo for moisture. Check out The World According To Eggface for more post-op ideas. Take it slow and if you aren't tolerating solid food well, take a step back.

I think I had a piece of filet mignon at about 11 weeks and I thought it was a great accomplishment. You might just be pushing it too much.

I had a hard time with dense peotein (meat) for about six months. Make sure any protein is wet, not dry. Sauce is your friend right now... I found that barely cooked steak was easier than a dry piece of chicken breast. Chicken thigh was easier than breast, too. Deli meat - turkey, chicken, ham, was easier. Tuna was a no-go for me. Also anything that had a rubbery texture... hb eggs, shrimp, scallops was impossible for me. Everyone is different. Just keep trying things and if they do not sit well, back off for a week or two.

I ate a lot of greek yogurt, cottage cheese, and protein powder for the first several months. It will get better!

Here is the link to the eggface site Jen mentioned. There are great ideas there for all stages of postop eating.

You're likely fine, it may be that you just aren't ready to eat some of the things you are trying right about now. I wasn't cleared for solids until week 9. Then even when I was cleared there were things I couldn't eat right away.

I would say not to ru**** You've got the rest of your life to eat all of the things. Take your time and if you are really struggling maybe go back to the soft foods stage for a day or so. Introduce solids carefully and try not to stress. Something you can't eat now may be perfectly fine for you in a few weeks. It really is a process of trial and error at this point.

If you can't get in a significant amount of protein from your food you may want to consider adding a protein shake or something similar for a bit.

Hang in there, you're going to do fine. You've likely just hit a bit of a bump in the road.

Crockpots and pressure cookers are where almost all of my cooking takes place after surgery.
