Surgery Approval - Still Unsure about vitamins
Hello all!
Good news, I heard back from my insurance company today and they've approved me for surgery!
Now that it's real, I'm starting to think ahead, but I'm really unsure about vitamins. I feel like I haven't really been prepared by my team for this (they had me take an online class, but it was very brief).
If I could get some people daily vitamin routine, I think that's help a lot! Also, what brands do you use? Where do you buy from?
Thanks a ton!
-Haley
First congratulations!
In the beginning chewables are easiest. Not Flinstones or gummies though.
It should have at least 200% rda of most vitamins.
Most people take separate/additional calcium, B-12, iron and vit D
watch your blood work closely to see where you need to adjust as time goes on. You could be low normal but that's not optimal.
Celebrate and Bariatric Advantage are two Bariatric brands, but many people just take double Centrum.

I take these from Bariatric Advantage (same regime is recommended for RNY and VSG at my surgeons office). They are pricey but convenient for me and I HATE the taste of uncoated vitamins and can't swallow calcium horse pills. I take 3 of each a day, spaced by at least 2 hours and the vitamins have to also be spaced from coffee by 2 hours. The timing is to make sure iron and calcium are not together (and coffee and iron not together).

Congrats on the approval, I remember the anxiety I had during the approval process. I will include a pic of the vitamins/supplements recommended by my team. I take a dose of calcium (now I get the walmart brand of "horse pills" but did the chewable ones from bariatric advantage for the first two years) and multi with breakfast, calcium and B12 with lunch, calcium and B12 with afternoon snack and multi with iron and vit C (to aid in the iron absorption) with dinner.
Good luck!
Thank you to everyone for the great advice and congratulations! I really appreciate it and feel like I have a better handle on this now.
