Iron and scheduling pills

Can I take my 3 doses of iron all at once?? I know that I have to take it separately from my calcium and my thyroid pill. I think I can take it with my multi since my multi has iron in it. I am just trying to figure out a schedule. My pharmacist said that I have to take it 4 hours from my thyroid pill and my calcium. I need more hours in the day!

You can take it all at once, and with a multi, if the multi is very low calcium. Two hours from calcium, coffee, tea, soy, and a few other things. I don't know about thyroid meds.

Extra Vitamin C helps with iron absorption. Take 200 mg of C for every 30 mg of elemental iron.

Why 3 doses? Hard enough to get one in.

I have an extremely complex medicine schedule. I've taken iron pills in the middle of the night. Same with thyroid.

Thyroid is always a hard one to fit in.

LOL. I thought I was the only one who thought of taking my iron in the middle of the night.

I take mine in the middle of the night, too - then I don't have to worry about anything interfering with it. I'm up at least a couple of times *anyway*, so...

Take it separate to calcium and thyroid med, but otherwise it doesn't matter. I take the 3 together with my multi in the am.

Proferrin is not the same as other iron, so there are not so many "rules" tied to it as there are to non heme irons.

This is why I love these boards! I sent an email to my surgeons nurse last Tuesday, still waiting for a response. IThank you!

Oh hello! I just today got my Proferrin. Why are those rules different and what are they, please? I just took my first one at 8:45 pm so I could space it away from any dairy.

someone on here may know a lot more about this than I do, but I don't think you have to worry about calcium interfering if you're taking heme iron (iron you get from meat doesn't have that issue, either - although meat is heme iron...)
