Does Costco make you fat??

I shop at Costco frequently. I would say that Walmart has more obese customers. I drove to Florida from Michigan two times this year on I-75. I stopped at Costco in OH, KY, TN, GA and 2 in Florida. Gas can be 20 cents cheaper than gas stations. (I have them marked on my hard copy map. I am a snowbird.) One time I got a Ceaser salad, a "Tommy Bahama" beach chair, umbrella, and towel for same price as renting one on the beach for 2 days. Anyway, I digress.... I noticed that different stores in different states have different sized people and different goods for sale. EX: Down in Florida they have orange and lemon trees but no camping tents. In Michigan, I have never seen orange or lemon trees but they have camping equipment. I mostly see people with less than 1/2 cart of food. Don't know why I watch, but when I am eating in the food court, there is nothing else to do. They have a lot of organic, healthy food. The only unhealthy snack food we buy is chocolate covered almonds for DH.

Wal-Mart has greeters. Costco has those people checking your membership card at the door.

We need to replace all those people with Carny folk. The ones that guess your weight. Then they can start tracking weights of their respective customers. We can cross-reference by geographic region.

Maybe perhaps you see bigger people at Costco because they are food addicts and can afford the membership fee??? I know I spent my money on food pre surgery, Just like a druggy who buys drugs and alcoholic who buys alcohol . but I don't go to Costco, I shop at Sam's club but doesn't sound like they are very different.

No Costco does not make you fat and there are no more fatter people there than any other venue. I alone made myself fat. I think very few, if any of us, were force fed fat. And only I can make myself thinner. Costco and every other store is blameless.

I don't see more fat people at Costco than at other discounted grocers. Where you live (fat city, thin city) is more a determinant than anything else, imo. I've never eaten at the Costco food court, rarely eat the free samples at Costco or Trader Joe's, nor do I frequent fast food restaurants. This was/is true pre and post WLS. I got fat by overeating, regardless of where I shopped.

Chances are you notice more fat people because you were formerly fat yourself. I seem to notice it more, and I think it's because when I was SMO, I was so zoned in on normal or thin people because I was so self-conscious about my size. Now, I seem to be particularly aware of MO or SMO people, because I worry about them now the way I used to worry about myself.

We are a developed society, and with food so readily available and with so many options and quantity, you could accuse every grocery or supermarket of "marketing to fat people." It's simply a case of availablity and demand. Less demand for healthy foods in the food court means they are going to supply what people want. Even normal-sized people who have never had weight issues, love their pizza, burgers and fries. If they tried to sell only healthy, low calorie food, their sales would drop drastically and people would buy their groceries and leave to go eat hot food elsewhere. Supply and demand drives their marketing, simple economics.

On an unrelated subject, how is the almond crop doing this year?

There is a large crop this year. The rains did not effect the crop. The trade war with China may cause the price of almonds and walnuts to drop...We'll see.
