Thank you so much for sharing this story! I am having surgery in a few months and my labs are already showing a critically low ferritin level (started with 15 and am now up to 25), so I definitely want to be sure I know what to look for. I'm also a little frustrated because they don't post labs to their portal. I'm going to ask for printouts and start tracking.

Thank you again!

Thank you for sharing your story and for all that replied.

I've taken a backseat to Alzheimer's and haven't given my labs a passing thought. I have remained diligent about taking the vitamins recommended by my surgeon in the early stage of of my bypass.

I just now realized that I've actually put myself on the bumper. I've walked the hospice journey 5 times within the past 4 years, my daughter is a Navy pilot, my son is also in the Navy and does things Moms don't want to know about. Gold Star wife and my son is all I have left of my first husband. He was an A7 single seat Navy jet pilot. He and his plane disappeared off the coast of Norway, during training exercises with our allies. Hence the stress level off the chart. She recently learned how to land her jet and take off the aircraft carrier while at sea. He just returned yesterday on U.S. soil, he's been gone since October of last year.

At least this Mom. I recently walked beside my best friend of 30+ years who was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. The man was a health fanatic, had over 1,600 hours of sick leave, no PCP, just flight physicals. He never drank, junk food, soda, nothing. He thought he had picked up a bug while in Brazil. My second husband was officially diagnosed with Alzheimer's in June of 2011, in looking back he was exhibiting signs as early as 2001. I'm his caregiver.

Thank you again for your story, replies and to the vets who take the time to be here. I'm going to place a call tomorrow to my PCP and request a referral to a hematologist and have labs pulled this week. Only takes a 2x4 across my head sometimes.

I am sorry for everything you've been through. It's good you've realized you have to take care of yourself also!
