Medical Alert Bracelet?

I recently learned about NG tubes being very dangerous for Gastric Bypass patients. I am considering getting a medical alert bracelet. I was wondering if others have gotten one? Also for alerting no NASIDS. I don't exactly like the look of them from a fashion statement lol but I think when you think about what could happen if some one did not know might throw fashion out the window! :)

i just found this article and thought I share...

I was strongly advised by my surgeon to get one, and what to put on it (in addition to my codeine allergy), so I did. This is what mine says:

Front:

Name and birth date

Back:

Gastric sleeve 10/31/16
Allergy: Codeine
Fluid Cap < = 60cc
No Blind NGs
No NSAIDs

Thanks for your description... I will add penicillin to mine. Did you get a bracelet or necklace? Bracelet probably most common.

Is the fluid Cap line to do with wls? Or personal to something else?

I found a nice one online to order and wondering if that pertains to me too with WLS? I have a couple allergies and not sure I can include or fit anyway. Thanks Cathy!

I have a bracelet, and yes the fluid capacity is based on us having such small stomachs (VSG anyway). It was on the list of things to put on my med alert that I got from my surgeon. The only personal thing I added is the allergy line.

I'm trying to remember where I ordered mine from. I chose the place because it was cheaper and I could get a bracelet that allowed 5 lines on the back.

Thanks Cathy. I have two allergies I listed, so no room to add and not positive on that one for RNY anyway. I just ordered mine from Lauren's hope (below). I like what I ordered. I ordered the plate with the guardian angel wings with the medic sign. I think it's very nice.

So glad I found OH so many things I did not know that are so important.

My surgeon said "If you're conscious, you can tell them, and if you're unconscious, it's more important that they save your life." So I didn't.

Sounds good but if unconscious and they use NG tube can't it kill you? or is this not very likely to happen? Very rare? Just heard of this and so not so well informed.

thanks.

What I was told, and what is on my med alert bracelet, is No BLIND NGs. If you are in a hospital and they can do them with a camera or ultrasound or whatever they do to be able to watch as the tube goes down that's fine. It's the "here let me shove this up your nose and push until I think it's in the right place in your stomach" that they can't do because they have no way of knowing how big your stomach is now. It can be VERY dangerous!

I just thought I would share in regards to the "look" of medical ID bracelets... they have come a long way since the one's I remember seeing in the eighties. Check on Amazon and you will be surprised I think. I ordered one that is a little slimmer and pink, and you can add Pandora charms to it. I was really amazed by the variety though, and engraving after isn't as expensive as I thought it would be.
