How much food can you eat at one sitting?iI

Hi everyone,

I'm 7 weeks out from my gastric bypass. My nutritionists instructions said to eat a cup of food once I got to regular food. I thought that was a lot of food but I was trying to get in 90 grams of protein. In any event I was able to eat a 9 ounce lean cuisine. Then I traveled to a friend and brought 11 ounces of food for dinner (3oz chicken; 4 oz mashed cauliflower and 4 oz cream of wheat). I was able to eat all that food at one sitting. I don't understand how I can get all that food down at one sitting at seven weeks out from my bypass. And then last night I was able to eat 9 ounce smart ones frozen dinner which did not have a carb in it. I had 9 ounces of chicken and vegetable and I was not full and had to go get some cream of wheat to add a carb. Then I was full. I need to see my nutritionist I know, but how is this even possible at 7 weeks post surgery. I am anxious and fearful. Please help!

Wow that's a lot of veg and carb. I couldn't do all that at your stage. They had me at half cup until 6 months (that's total food volume); 3/4 cup until a year and then a cup to cup half (with veg) after. I probably now eat 3oz to 4 oz of protein and about 3/4 cup of veg at a meal. Smashed all up it is around 1 1/4 cup on average per meal. But my NUT was crazy when I was at your stage - she made me throw out 2 oz of yogurt from my daily pre-packed yogurt. She was a stickler for half cup max and then 3/4 cup max after 6 months. She literally yelled at me for an hour about the yogurt. I still repack my yogurt today, even though I don't have too.

What I've learned on this site - Just because you can do it - doesn't mean you should. Your stomach is still healing and not telling you yet when you've eaten too much. Be careful and follow your surgeon's program.

I'm almost 6 weeks out and can only eat around a half cup max, or 2-3 oz of protein, depending on the type of protein. I am not eating any starchy carbs (no potatoes, cream of wheat, pasta, rice, bread, crackers etc) or veggies yet.

Cream of wheat was on my "full liquid" food plan but I didn't eat it. It offers no nutritional value and a lot of carbs, which I'm determined to keep low. Also, due to the consistency, it's considered a "slider" I do believe--it will run right through your stomach.

Im no vet by any stretch, but I'd say ditch the carbs in favor of more protein. Smile and nod when your NUT says to eat them.

Hi. I also had revision from lapband. I started at 254 lbs at my surgery. Can I ask you how much weight did you lose by 6 months post op and how much were you exercising if at all. I Thought I'd be restricted for at least six months and able to lose a decent amount of weight but this doesn't seem to be in my cards at this point. Thank you

Yes, in the sense that it will "slide" through your stomach pouch, but it also has a lot of protein. Basically, I eat it, but I make sure to measure 1/2 C and don't eat more than that.

You can probably eat non stop cream of wheat and mashed veggies. I didn't do any of that in the losing phase... and rarely do now. You want to eat dense protein and weight it so you know you aren't getting too much. Don't chase the full filling cause many of us rarely if ever get it. At 7 weeks out I was eating around 500 calories a day and they came from dense protein, cheese, protein shakes and that was it. I didn't even eat any veggies that early on. Once I added veggies it was only for one meal and they weren't mashed.

Omg I'm the same stats as you. I also converted from lapband. Can u please help me with a copy of your early diet. I think I've been doing it all wrong eating sliders and I'm 2 months into my honeymoon phase. Thank you
